Il migliore amico (Best Friend)

Renee and Mark had a such an awesome wedding!

It started on Casey Key. I had the privilege of being able to attend film their rehearsal dinner. It was totally laid back and the beach and playground were a lot of fun to shoot on!

The wedding ceremony took place at the picturesque St Martha's Catholic church in Sarasota, Fl.
We shot with Our fellow Elegant Sarasota Wedding group photographers from A.J. Mills.
Rev. Fausto Stampiglia was hilarious and poignant all at once. He definitely has a special place in my heart!

The cocktail hour was at this cool tiki hut area of Mote Marine. The multi-talented musician Jonathon Cortez joined us there and had us groovin to some great lounge tunes

The reception was also at Mote. We were on the top floor overlooking the water. Everything was fantastic! Thanks for having us capture your wedding Mark and Renee! We wish you the best in your future!

Check out their Highlight!

And here is the full length documentary edit.

E-mail that makes me smile!

July 6, 2010 | Filed Under Star Fruit Productions | Leave a Comment

Every once in a while, I get an unexpected e-mail from someone who has seen my work and did not expect to be moved by a "wedding video". I am so excited to have received the highest compliment from a peer. Check out the lovely e-mail I woke up to, and thank you so much Ronald, you made my day!

Hello Sage;
I have been shooting wedding video since 1985. (My wife & I are now in Ft. Myers)
Looked at your website, and
I just wanted it say, that your work is beyond anything I have ever seen.
Your shot selection, blended with your music choice, makes for an unbelievable production.
You could take any 30 second clip, and apply it to almost any product or service for an inspiring TV commercial.
Bravo!
Best,
Ronald

The sky was amazing the day that Danielle and Stephen tied the knot on Anna Maria Island. The ceremony started on the beach under beautiful blue skys. Then a fantastic thunderstorm rolled in, bringing gorgeous hues and an amazing sunset.

Patti at the Sandbar did a fabulous job of wrangling vendors. We also got to work with the dynamic duo that is Chuck and Dara Caudill. Chuck kept the house rockin' and Dara captured the event with her photography.

Here is their highlight!

POSH Feature!!

May 4, 2010 | Filed Under Star Fruit Productions | Leave a Comment

Hi guys! I can't tell you how excited I am to be featured on the POSH blog. These uber talented ladies are all about empowering female filmmakers!

You can check the original article here!

Feature: Sage Hall of StarFruit Productions
May 4, 2010

We are excited to feature Sage Hall of StarFruit Productions this week.

Sage writes:

Raw love rocks!

And I am fortunate enough to see it, capture and share it as my job! Life is good! A little background on how I got started on this journey: I have been a storyteller since the time I could speak! I started acting as a child and fell in love with the theatre the first time I stepped on a stage. I love allowing people to feel and think about things from a different perspective. I made it a goal to learn every aspect of the theatre from lighting and sound to directing and of course acting. When I was 20, I packed up my car and moved to LA where my love for film was born, and since then, I have had the privilege of acting on stages from Los Angeles to London and many places in between.

I approached film the same way I did theatre, wanting to learn everything from the inside out and back in again! I started making mini movies of family events and found that same excitement in the editing room that I found on stage. I could edit for hours on end and not even realize that so much time had gone by. It was love and I haven’t lost that excitement!

Wedding Films have opened up a whole new world for me. Before I made them I, like many peeps out there, imagined some sweaty old dude who would do lots of zooming and shaky cam moves as he flirted with the bridesmaids. I’m so happy to say that this is not the case! Some of the most innovative movies are now coming from event filmmakers! Wedding films allow us to showcase the best sides of humanity. We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with images of the superficial side of humanity. Wedding films showcase our beauty.

StarFruit is constantly evolving, as a matter of fact we are in production, in conjunction with Jesse Kozel, for my first short film, Candy, right now! I love the diversity of projects StarFruit allows me to work on. Every time I shoot and edit a wedding film, I learn something that I can bring into my narrative works and vice versa. Who knows what the future holds for StarFruit, but right now, I am enjoying the ride!

Sage’s Inspiration

If I am feeling lost on a project, I have lots of places to head for inspiration.. Music is a huge influence on me, I play the french horn and trumpet and had a short stint as the singer of a punk band in LA.?I also find that being near the ocean helps me immensely, whether it be the animals nearby, the rust on a dock or the color of the sea foam, there is always beauty that presents itself. I feel like one of my biggest jobs is to simply allow beauty to shine through.?I am also inspired by my mentors and peers. I recently saw Werner Herzog speak about his film “Little Dieter NEEDS to FLY”. He spoke a lot about his style of filmmaking which meshes a documentary style with staging events to reach the higher truth. I feel like my Wedding Films are exactly that; a heightened sense of reality.?I also find inspiration from the great wedding filmmakers I am surrounded with. Jason Magbanua is a huge influence on me. His films are constantly evolving, yet they always retain the heart and spunk that I have come to love so much.

Beach Magic: Rachel and Neal

April 28, 2010 | Filed Under Star Fruit Productions | Leave a Comment

I love my clients!!! Here is an awesome e-mail I got from Rachel

Hi Sage,
Married life is ridiculously wonderful, especially without the raging fever that I had on the wedding day! I don't think normal people are supposed to enjoy each other this much! But, to be honest it was like this before the wedding. I know, it is kinda sickening:).

I also wanted to thank you again for playing a part in our day. You, Corrine (sp?) and Jesse were a welcomed addition to our wedding and it felt like friends were following us around! I am anxious to see the finished product as well:)!

One more thing, Neal and I are so grateful that you thought to have us re-do our vows so that we had the right ones on record! I cannot tell you how much that means to us. I know that this is your job, and I can tell that you see the importance of what you are giving to your clients, but Sage, that was special. Yes- I am aware that I just got very corny! We would not have thought to ask you to do that, and we are so thankful! It was yet another mark of a caring, sincere and invested professional.

Thank you again and my apologies for writing a novel in a reply email!
Rachel

As I was editing the short film for Rachel and Neal I got way to excited about all the awesomeness that was happening on my computer screen. I had to share a sneak peek with you guys!

Rachel and Neal got married on Anna Maria Island in Southwest Florida. They got ready at this great beachhouse called The Limefish! I love it when homes have names! They held their ceremony at the wedding pavilion at the Sandbar coordinated by the lovely Patti McKee.

How do I always end up with the most wonderful couples? These two were down to earth, funny and madly in love! They have the type of relationship that I strive to one day achieve!

Congrats Rachel and Neal! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!!!

Happy Easter!

April 6, 2010 | Filed Under Star Fruit Productions | Leave a Comment

The Easter bunny always brought my sis and I lots of yummy candy! Peeps, Cadbury eggs, Jelly beans, Robin eggs, dark AND white chocolate. I know! I totally lucked out with the Easter bunny!!
We are older now and no longer get the big basket of candy, but we still love to celebrate!

I hope everyone had a fabulous Holiday weekend! I know I did. What a great time to come together and celebrate how lucky we are to have people that we love and love us back in our life. Reciprocal love is just plain good stuff, no matter how you swing it.

I am so fortunate that my passion in filmmaking has allowed me to share important events with so many families. I love grandmas and nephews, sister-in-laws, second cousins, friends that have been around so long they might as well be related, etc.... these celebrations always make me remember that life is short. I am so thankful to have my awesome family!

Although I started this event filmmaking endeavor making little movies of my own family, it's been a while since I have added to the collection! This year, my mom, Korryn and I all got together and dyed Easter eggs! It's been so long and it was really fun! I also get watch my 1.5 year old nephew Dexter experience Easter. I know it's cliche, but there really is nothing like seeing the world through a childs eyes. Easter was fab, we went on a boat ride, drank some vino, ate some yummy food and chilled..... ahh what more can you ask for?

I also got to try out my little macro extension tube for the lens on my camera. It means I can get really close close-ups of stuff! I shot it totally handheld with my Canon 5D MarkII which means there is probably some jello in the mix, but, I figured, it's Easter! Jello is kinda appropriate! Easter makes me think of color, vibrant greens, oranges, pinks and blues. So that is the the theme for my little movie.

Check out the remix of Peter Cottontail by Dj Abnorml. He is based in LA but travels worldwide and can pretty much remix any song you want!!!

Please enjoy my home movie of Easter.

WPPI : Wedding & Portrait Photographers International

March 13, 2010 | Filed Under Star Fruit Productions | Leave a Comment

WPPI was quite a whirlwind of learning, networking and good ole fun! Being my first conference, I had no clue what to expect. The only thing I did know was that over 10,000 photogs and a select group of wedding filmmakers would be converging at the MGM Grand in Vegas. This had to be good right?

It was my first trip back to Vegas since my sister graduated from UNLV several years ago, I used to go quite frequently when I lived in LA. I never was huge a gambler but, I do like shiny things, so Vegas is right up my alley!

I arrived Sunday night and went straight to my room, I wanted to get some sleep so I could soak up as much knowledge as possible at the workshop the next morning. Aces in Vegas was great. Joe Simon and Bruce Patterson are very generous with their knowledge and it was great to get some hands-on time with all the fun tools.

After the workshop, I helped Kara McGinn Jensen shoot her quilting documentary. Andrew Hsu, James Burkart, and Isabel Gonzalez were all in the house! The quilter/surfer guy, www.robappell.com, was really amazing. The way he spoke about bringing different elements into the quilt and telling a story made me realize how close it is to what I do. There are so many ways to tell a story!

I also got to spend some time with David Robin, John Goolsby, Kristen *, Julie and Alex Hill, Travis Cossel and Kevin Shahinian. These guys are incredible event filmmakers and it was really cool getting to hang out with them in person.

But I must admit one of the highlights of my trip was seeing Jason Magbanua. He has been an inspiration to me me since I started my biz 3 years ago. His talent accompanied by his incredible personality is just good stuff! And.... he said he's proud of my work! That is moment I will hold onto for a long time! Thanks Sir Jason!!!

Vegas was incredible, and it really does feel like mirage in the desert. I can't believe how lucky I was to have gotten to spend so much time with the the people in my industry that I respect so much.

I'm taking many lessons from Wppi. Some expected and some not, but I am grateful for all.

Viva Las Vegas! Conference for WPPI: Wedding & Portrait Photographers International

March 1, 2010 | Filed Under Star Fruit Productions | Leave a Comment

Heading to Las Vegas to learn some new skills! I've heard so many things about this awesome convention called WPPI - Wedding & Portrait Photographers International, so I figured it was time to check it out. Plus it's in Vegas!

WPPI is mainly geared towards still photographers, but with emergence of the DSLR video fusion wave, this is a great place to learn how to better use my equipment and see what other talented pros are doing.

Two of my favorite filmmakers Joe Simon and Bruce Patterson will also be conducting a workshop called Aces in Vegas. I'm totally stoked to get to learn more about the wisdom they will be imparting!

I have not been to Vegas since my sister graduated from UNLV so this is going to be fun!

Fringe Theatre! @ Home Resource

March 1, 2010 | Filed Under Star Fruit Productions | Leave a Comment

Hello all!
I don't know if you have ever been to "fringe" theatre, but it's huge in England. It is normally a little edgier than your mainstream stuff and often done in unconventional locations!

Michael and Cathy Bush have graciously opened up their awesome modern furniture store,Home Resource in downtown Sarasota! Pam Wiley, Jesse Kozel and I will performing there on Feb 11th and 12th. The plays that will be showcased are written by the fabulously talented Jenny Beres. Her dark wit and snappy dialogue will keep you on your toes!

Our artistic director, Louise, described the plays as "Light pieces with a lot of hostility." And I think that about sums then up!

Dr. Louise Stinespring directs Draft, a world premiere.
David and Kelly deal with their mother's death. Kelly wants to publish mom's writing, David does not. To David's dismay, Kelly has invited a psychic to help them sort it out.

Pam Wiley directs Lost and Found
A swanky hotel lost and found is run by Karen. Max has lost his wedding ring and attempts to retrieve it. Will he get it back?

Tickets are $12 and there is an open wine bar!
Doors open at 6:30, showtime is 7.

Hope to see you there!
