Elena & Dino | Wedding Video Highlights at Gaynes Park Barns in Epping

August 9, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

Elena and Dino had planned a wedding day to include aspects from both sides of their cultures.  We knew that it was going to be a very special celebration; the sun came out, and the location transformed the wedding into something really spectacular.  They decided to have their June summer wedding ceremony and reception at  Gaynes Park Barns in Epping, Essex.

The day had beautiful blue skies and just screamed elegance at every opportunity. Elena just looked stunning in her dress as you can see from this short film as she walked downstairs, for the first time in her beautiful dress.

As the sun set we decided to capture a timelapse (this is where we film an event and speed it up).  At this time of the year the evening sky has a wonderful deep blue colour as the twilight hours set in. Beautiful!

We love working at Gaynes. It has a wonderful view of London and some stunning surroundings as well as being a very intimate venue.

Their photographer was the very talented Polly Alexandre who has a very unique look, mainly as she shoots on film;  a fantastic medium to work with. The images produce a different feeling when you look at them. To see just how good this look can be click here to head over to her blog to view the photos from this wedding.

For our technically minded readers we have now changed the way we film. We now use all Canon DSLR cameras with a multitude of lenses in order to create a different look, especially when compared to shooting on regular video cameras. Our look is now more akin to 35mm film. We have been doing this now for a while so expect to see even more stunning footage up on our blog in the very near future.

Lisa & Simon | Wedding Video Highlights at South Farm

July 21, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

As we travelled towards Lisa and Simons home, the landscape transformed into an idyllic country setting. We were in rural Cambridgeshire – far away from the hubub of London life.

Lisa’s touches were everywhere – the flowers looked amazing – and her theme of brilliant pink and black looked classy and elegant.

The reception took place at South Farm – a distinctly different place, in Royston, Hertfordshire. We managed to get some footage of Lisa and Simons accommodation that night – a Romany Gypsy Caravan. Even the pigs and peacocks didn’t mind posing for the camera.

It was a tactfully emotional day for everyone that was there – I think the best part was watching Simon read from the gift that Lisa had made for him, which you will be able to see in the highlights.

Have a watch :)

Sharon & Paul | Highlights at Horwood House

June 18, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

I think every wedding day is unique. There is always certain parts that are traditional, but most of what we film represents our couples interpretation on their once in a life time experience. Sharon and Paul put a great deal of hard work into the planning of their day, and the little details show this so well. They were married on a rainy day in May, but that didn’t stop them enjoying every part of it.There reception took place at Horwood House in Milton Keynes, a stunning character building dating back to the 1600′s.

You will be able to see from their highlights that it seems fair to say that everyone enjoyed their day and were proud and happy to be part of their special celebration. Sharon specifically requested that the song we used on her highlights. It seems to capture very well the essence of Mr and Mrs Johnson.

Jo & Ed | Wedding Video Highlights at Wellington Barn

June 8, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

Jo and Ed were one of those couples who hadn’t planned on having a wedding film of their day. Ed is actually a wedding photographer and appreciates how important the photos are in a wedding. It is after-all, one of the few things you actually walk away with once the sun has set.

We met Ed while filming the wedding of Anna and Paul in 2009 and he was immediately drawn to the way we told their story. Not just another camera which is set to record but told in such a way that the viewer can really get drawn into their story. After showing Ed some more of our work he knew that he not only needed photos of his day but a film which can really compliment the photos by showing the vibe and atmosphere in a way photos cannot.

We were super excited about this shoot as we planned on using our new cameras far more than we had previously and knew that it could help us achieve shots and a look normally limited to Hollywood blockbusters.

The day was one to remember for all with Ed putting a hot lighter to his fresh wedding waistcoat and the supremely chocolaty cupcake tree they had for their wedding cake. In the evening the live band kept the dance-floor packed and for those of us with a serious case of the munchies there were fish and chips served in cones with little wooden forks. Om nom nom nom.

Sadly the day ended but they both have a unique memento of their day in their new highlights (and soon enough the main movie itself).

For anyone wanting to check out Ed’s work be sure to take a look at his website www.edclaytonphotography.co.uk.

Heena | Rock the Frock / Trash the Dress

June 3, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

Back in 2008 we filmed the wedding of Heena & James. A wonderful day which featured a number of wedding dresses. Shortly after the wedding James started his own wedding photography business, Carbon Rouge Photography and we stayed in touch.

We have always wanted to do a rock the frock session (also known as trash the dress) and when we mentioned this to James he told us that he too had the same desire and it just so happened that Heena was up for getting down and dirty in one of her wedding dresses.

So it was on, we had our model, we had our dress and we had more than enough enthusiasm to pull this off.

James found a wonderful venue just outside of London where Heena could wade through ponds, roll in the mud and make a lovely, painty mess.

James also brought along his camera to take a few photos which can only be described as stunning and really capture the dirty, grimey vibe of the day. You can view them on his website here and here. Also, here is a little layout James created from shots he took on the day where you can see me sporting my Steadicam.

We cant tell you how much we enjoyed this, its quite liberating being able to treat a dress in the exact opposite to how we treat it on the wedding day itself and it was great to see the reaction from passers by. When the day started and the dress was clean James and Heena were receiving congratulations from park visitors. Then, as the day went on and the dress became a bit more colourful people just looked confused :)

For many their wedding dress will sit in a box under the bed, never to see the light of day again. For Heena she got to wear it one last time and now has a work of art she could display. I also understand that she has received some offers to purchase the newly trashed dress.

Lucy & Matt | Highlights at Headingham Castle

May 19, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

Matt and Lucy were the modern couple, with a twist. When we met up with them, they described their wedding day as something that the modern couple would enjoy, but with a hint of vintage class on the side.  That’s exactly what they had.

Their wedding took place at Headingam Castle, in Halstead.  A truly stunning place. I really felt at home there – mainly due to the fact that I had spent a good deal of my child hood in and around this very area.  It was a very nostalgic day for me.

Everything about Matt and Lucy’s day was classy; a real tribute to all the hard work they put into to all the details.  The candle lit ceremony, the character of the location and the couple themselves made it all a very vintage themed day, for a couple of modern Londoners.

WILD WEAR | FASHION PHOTO SHOOT

May 12, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

We may be known for creating beautiful wedding films but on occasion we put our cameras into stills mode and take a few photos.

We were asked by up and coming fashion designer Heather Weller to take some photos of her latest work for an exhibition later this month.

Her collection is based on the movie, and popular children’s book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. She named the collection ‘Wild Wear’ and when she showed us some of the pieces we were quite excited about how we could approach this shoot.

Although we were taking photos we wanted to give them a movie like feel. We had great fun stomping around Ashridge Park, getting into a leaves fight and swinging from trees.

You can get in touch with Heather and find out details about her exhibition on her Wild Wear Facebook profile.

Joshua Jackson | My First Year

March 23, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

Joshua Jackson was born on Saturday 30th January 2010 at 1.55am and weighed 8lb 3oz.

We all know that kids grow and change but it wasn’t until we sat down with our good friends and new parents, Simon and Michele that we realised just how much they change. You see, until now all we had seen of Joshua were a few photos on Facebook but seeing him in the flesh we saw just how much he had grown and changed in a few short weeks.

Later that week we thought we would give our friends a unique gift. We would film Joshua at various points in his life and create his very own little series of videos with the final episode being on his first birthday. We would take our camera whenever we visited or at key points in his life (such as moving onto solid food) and document his life. A modern day baby book or family portrait if you will.

We are calling this series ‘My First Year’. In this, the first episode we meet Joshua who is now 7 weeks old along with his close family. Throughout the series we will introduce new members of the cast including ‘Uncle Laupy’.

One thing we do really well here at Mintyslippers is tell people’s stories and for Simon and Michele we captured their wedding day and now their first born son.

We’ve already had such an amazing response to the teaser we posted a few days ago that we have decided to add ‘My First Year’ to our product line-up. If you would like your own ‘My First Year’ video diary then please get in touch. Or click here to download the brochure.

A taste of Mintyslippers | 2010 Showreel

March 18, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

Each year we like to produce a little showreel. This is short video made up of footage from the past years wedding’s which shows just what Mintyslippers is all about.

It’s a great way to get a feel for what we can produce without watching the many films we have showcased on our blog these past 4 years.

When we start making a showereel we pull together some of our favourite clips of the past 12 months and then piece them together to make a little story about a wedding. Often we are left with hundreds of clips and weddings which we just couldn’t fit into our show-piece. But to all our couples who we didn’t get to feature we say to you “we love you just as much”.

It really shows just how much we can capture the beauty and majesty of your wedding day by not only capturing the main parts of your day but also the details and little moments which make every wedding special.

Carly & Jon | Next, next day edit at Woburn Abbey

March 14, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

This is something quite special. We filmed the wedding of Carly and Jon on Friday the 12th and 2 days later we have their highlights.

There are two reasons for this. The first is that nearly all of the footage for this highlights is from our new camera. I wont go into the technical details now but one of its cool features is the speed at which we can get the footage onto our computers. Infact we spent our lunch break deleting and editing files on the camera so they were ready to go in the edit. The other thing we love is just how amazing the footage looks.

The second reason why we decided to pull out all the stops with this one is that Carly unfortunately fell ill half way through her big day and was unable to attend for a few hours in the evening. Normally this would mean missing out on whatever happened in that time. But as we were there to capture the day it meant that neither Carly or Jon will have missed a moment.

We know that for anyone to miss a part of their own wedding can be hard, so myself and Julie agreed that we would not only create a highlights for two of the kindest, most thoughtful people you could hope to meet that we would do so with some urgency. Normally the day after a wedding is for recovering but we just felt inspired and still excited after such a wonderful day that we really wanted to do this for them. Sort of like our wedding gift to them.

Their wedding took place in the Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey. We have long wanted to film a wedding there, not only because it is quite close to where we live but because of its beauty and character. The venue surpassed all of our expectations in every way. Not only in its beauty but the staff could not do enough to help you… and we were just the filmmakers! The energy and care they gave to the couple themselves was nothing short of exemplary.

Elisa & Damian | Highlights at St Michaels Manor in St Albans

March 14, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

If I had to describe the wedding of Elisa & Damian in one word that word would have to be ‘intimate’. Set in the beautiful grounds of St Michaels Manor in St Albans the guests had plenty of space to make their own but also, as the couple had the place to themselves it was very intimate. Not only that but the Rolls Royce wedding car was that of her father.

You couldn’t tell by looking at them but both Elisa and Damian were a little apprehensive about being filmed. But then again, who isn’t? Once the day started they were both perfect naturals in front of the camera and were just clearly enjoying each others company.

This weekend we had a chance to take our new camera out for a proper spin at the wedding of Carly & Jon. They had their wedding in the beautiful Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey and thankfully we had plenty of sunshine.

The new camera is amazing in so many ways but we thought we would share with you some images which were taken from the video footage we captured. You will agree that Carly not only looked stunning but clearly knew how to work the camera.

Colour Grading | What is it?

March 8, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

One thing which helps sets ourselves and other wedding filmmakers apart from you average wedding video is the amount of work which goes into each and every production after the wedding date itself.

It would be all too easy to just take the footage, place it on a DVD and call it a wedding video. What we produce is more like a film than anything else.

Part of what helps us achieve that is how we colour the movie. Something known as colour correction and colour grading.

Colour correction is where we take the video footage and fix any problems that may have crept in. Sometimes the lighting can be a challenge and make things blue or red. So we must correct this so it looks more natural. We must also make the footage from the multiple cameras look the same.

What we then do is apply a colour grade to it. One reason for this is that it helps the video footage look more film like which in turn is much more pleasant to watch. Also what we do to the footage can enhance what you feel when you watch it.

In the example below we have taken some footage from Roshni and Dipan’s highlights. On the left is the footage as it comes straight out of our camera and how most other wedding videos would look. On the right is how it looks after we’ve worked our Mintyslippers mojo on it. We’ve taken the grey London building and given it a spot of colour both outside and in. As this video was taken in October the leaves on the trees were starting to turn a wonderful brown colour. So we used this and gave the highlights an autumnal feeling with an ever so subtle brown and orange tint.

The story behind the slippers

March 2, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

Everywhere we go people want to know how we came up with our business name. Unfortunately the story isn’t as interesting as the name itself but we still love to tell it when we meet people. But we know we have a lot of readers who we may never get to meet so thought we would share with you the story behind the slippers.

Back in 2006 Julie and I were in my study, enjoying another fine day of married life. Back then, we had time on our hands, and were looking for a custom e-mail address, simply because we were passing a cold wintry rainy day.

So we spent quite a lot of time wondering what was different or not already taken. For no particular reason, Julie looked down at her feet and what she saw were the very same slippers you see above. The slippers were minty in colour. The name Mintyslippers was born and we quickly bought the address mintyslippers.co.uk.

Some years later we started our wedding video business. We knew we wanted to be slightly different and call it something unique. We also knew that people had to remember it, as people just don’t remember names. We then thought about company names which instantly spring to mind and realised they were all names which were a little off beat. Then remembered we had this excellent email address already… mintyslippers.co.uk

So we decided to call it just that. It was unique, it was memorable, when people see the name they instantly want to know what it’s all about. We love Mintyslippers, its so much of who we are now and we love it when people say they have heard about us.

If your after something unique – i.e. an e-mail address – it’s really cheap and easy . We got ours from 123-Reg.co.uk and they are about £3 for a .co.uk address and £10 for a .com address (per year). You just type in what address you would like and it will let you know if you can have it. I mean, how cool would it be to have the email danny@supercoolredpants.com…. actually, that address is available! This could even make a seriously cool gift for you husband to be.

Roshni & Dipan | Highlights at the Victoria and Albert Museum

February 25, 2010 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

OMG! That was the first thing that went through our mind’s when we saw the museum for the first time before the wedding. As you enter the main room where the party was to be held we were greeted by a huge sculpture hanging from the ceiling right over the bar. Which, during the day is actually the reception desk for the museum itself.

The day itself was to be different to many of our typical weddings. With no bridal prep and a very shot civil ceremony it was clear that this day was about the coming together of two families and the evening which follows. They were actually having a more traditional ceremony a few weeks later in India.

After the ceremony we headed off to Regents park along with their hugely talented photographer, Anil Tohani, to take some informal shots of the couple by themselves. The leaves had just turned to a lovely golden brown and were starting to fall. As we filmed the leaves were falling as if dropped on que… perfect!

The final part of this amazing day was the reception at the Victoria and Albert museum in London. The speeches were held in the great Raphael gallery where some of his work hung from the walls.

We were entertained all night, and starting off was a performance by Nutkhut who had only recently performed for the Queen at Buckingham palace.

After the speeches the entertainment continues with some fabulous cocktail shaking moves (actually they were mocktails as they contained no alcahol). Everyone then danced the night away on the starlit dancefloor.

As this was one of our Dream bookings we storyboard and plan some of the shots we want to get for use in the highlights and the main edit. One part which Roshni and Dipan wanted to see was the transformation of the Raphael gallery from being empty for the public to their spectacular wedding reception. So we setup our cameras but also spent large parts of the day capturing shots outside during the day and evening. The plan was to show a timelapse of the V and A as the sun goes down and the beautiful purple lighting outside comes up.
