I’m super excited about this opportunity we have to share with local photogs about our studio. We’re going to be talking about how to work better as a team (photogs+videogs) as well as our transition to filming weddings w/ ALL DSLR cameras. Lastly we’ll be talking about the pros and cons of diversifying your offerings (adding video to your photography biz) can help – or hurt you.
If you’re a photographer or event filmmaker, we’d love to have you come check it out. Here’s a link to the Detroit PUG site.

Sam had a sa-weeeet bar mitzvah at the Townsend Hotel in downtown Birmingham. It was a seriously cool party. From the talented Avy Schreiber who entertained the kids in the main area and then played an after party for the adults to shooting alongside all-star photographer and friend Laurie Tennent and the unforgettable songs by Dad and his friend – the Townsend was the place to be in B-ham that night!
Here’s a voicemail we received from Sam’s mom Diane:

Wedding Day Tip #88: A little rain never hurt anybody
February 15, 2010 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
Sunshine is beautiful. Rain on a wedding day is good luck. Optimism is priceless.
… and tents and umbrellas are gifts from God in moments like these…
FYI: that is all-star wedding coordinator Lindsey Nartker helping out with the umbrellas… also special thanks to Mike Germond (steadicam op) for the help with the umbrella.. the last thing I needed on a day like this was messy hair!

Coming Soon: Rachel + Dan’s Winter Wedding
February 8, 2010 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
This past weekend we were able to be a part of Rachel & Dan’s amazing wedding in Birmingham, MI. The ceremony took place at the historic St. Hugo of the Hills Church, while the reception was held at the Townsend Hotel. The day was literally full of surprises! Not for us, but for Rachel. The talented crew from Emerald City Designs were actually able to make it SNOW on the dance floor for Rachel & Dan’s first dance!! Rachel had no idea, and her reaction was priceless. Dan also surprised Rachel with a card filled with mementos from their first year together. It really was an amazing day, and I’m very happy for my fellow Chippewas! (Rachel, Dan & I all attended Central Michigan).

Why so quiet?
February 7, 2010 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
You may be asking yourself this question… things have been pretty quiet around the Epic Motion studio for the past couple of weeks. While they may be a little more quiet at the studio (even with Eric rocking out to his favorite Pandora mix and his ninja-naps on the couch), things are definitely louder at Ryan’s house.
Welcome Charlotte (Charlie) Rose Koral – the newest addition to the Koral clan.
Check back soon – for more super cute baby pics as well as some super cool things we’ll be announcing shortly!

Why you need a wedding planner… (via Lindsey Nartker Designs)

This is a great post by Lindsey of Lindsey Nartker Designs
… check it out on her blog.
It’s easy to not even consider the things that will go wrong on the wedding day… even if you’re able to think of things like rain – would you really want your aunt or uncle running around handing off umbrellas? Keep your friends and relatives as dry and duty free on the wedding day as possible… invest in a wedding planner!
Thanks to Melissa Patterson for the pics!

Wedding Day Tip #46: Rap Speeches When Possible
January 7, 2010 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
We’ve filmed well over a hundred weddings… I’ve never seen the best man deliver his speech in the form of a rap.
You may recognize DJ Cody as wide receiver for the Central Michigan Chippewas… or maybe you don’t. Either way – rapping at your brother’s wedding is awesome. Cody – you put the “ME” in “AWESO”.
Side note – Epic Motion’s own Eric Kmetz is an alum of CMU. And maybe CMU football’s biggest fan. And yes – I do make fun of him when he shows up to work with face paint, singing the school fight song, and sporting his Dan LeFevour jersey… no offense, Chips. Fire up. Seriously. Fire up. (Great season, btw!)
Our wedding day tip to all you people giving toasts at weddings… make them short, sweet, and memorable. And rap whenever possible.

Michigan Wedding Spotlight – Kendall + Austin’s Highlight Video
December 31, 2009 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
Kendall and Austin’s wedding took place in Troy, Michigan at Kensington Community Church and they partied it up in the Hills of Rochester at the Brookwood Golf Club. One of our favorite photographers - Aruna B – captured SO many stinkin’ cute pictures of these two…
Kendall and Austin – this is one of the most beautiful wedding films we’ve ever created. Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us. Your amazing personalities shine through this piece and we’ve had countless people tell us how much they love you guys and your story. You’re both top-notch people. Your influence reaches farther than you know.
Andrea and I love your love for each other and for God.
It.Is.Inspiring.
Enjoy the flick. It’s a good one.

Destination Wedding Video – Virgin Islands w/ Joe Simon Productions
December 21, 2009 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
One of the highlights of my year has been shooting destination weddings with some GREAT wedding filmmakers – namely Joe Simon from Austin, Texas and Andrew Hsu from San Jose, California. The most recent shoot was with Joe in the Virgin Islands. Joe had told me prior that he was shooting a “wedding on a boat…” in the Virgin Islands of all places. I was like, “Seriously?! Sign me up – and I’ll ask my wife later…” What sealed the deal was that I was able to bring my wife Andrea along for the trip which was super, super-rad.
The couple – Kim and Adam had secured the cruise ship for 3 nights – one day we shot the rehearsal, one day was the wedding, and the final day I filmed a session w/ Kim and Adam on the beach – oh – and don’t forget about the champagne and caviar they shared in waste deep ocean water on the beach of some hot little island. Seriously. Awesome.
Along with Joe, we worked with some really cool photogs – the guys from Table 4 (Jason and Andrew) based in Austin, Texas and Kim Le from Kim Le Photography in Southern California.
SeaDream Yacht – THANK YOU – for a time that we will never forget! Kim and Adam – you guys ROCK… thank you for your kindness and your hospitality. And thanks, Joe – you are incredibly gifted and I’m so honored that you had us join you for the ride on this one! Wedding-video-filmography-movies will never be the same. Hehe.

Epic Motion has recently invested in some new (and super rad) technology that makes the production process more efficient. And I’m excited to say, we’re passing the savings along to you. That means an Epic Motion wedding film is an even greater value for you, the client.

Meadow Brook Hall Wedding Video Trailer of Lindsey + James
December 16, 2009 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Michigan has been hands-down our most frequented wedding venue this past year. Lindsey and James partied it up and were a lot of fun. The wedding took place in Grosse Pointe at St. Ambrose Parish and then we headed to the gorgeous grounds at Meadow Brook Hall. We worked with Patrick from Special Moments Photography and really enjoyed our time together. He also let us test out some of his lenses with our Canon 5d mk2. The Jerry Ross Band kept the party going well into the evening…
Enjoy this sneak peek…

West Bloomfield Wedding at Tam O Shanter – Video Trailer of Allison + Jason
December 9, 2009 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
Tam O Shanter in West Bloomfield was the spot for Alison and Jason’s Michigan wedding this past summer. We created a next day edit for them which they showed at their brunch the following day… which was well received. We also had the opportunity to work alongside photographer Laurie Tennent and coordinator extraordinnaire Stacy from SoStacy based in Chicago, Illinois.
Alison and Jason – congrats to you both – and thank you for allowing us to be a part of your wedding day!
