Wait!! Before you watch this…

July 1, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

Before you watch this take an internal test to see how you are feeling. Are you feeling happy or sad - Close to friends or all alone - Excited or bored - frustrated or hopeful?

Now - watch the video.

How are you feeling now that you have watched the video?

That is a true test of a wedding video. It doesn't really matter what equipment you use or what special effects you see, it's how it makes you feel - how it moves you emotionally.

Today's wedding with Jason and Emily was soooo great! These two are just one of the coolest couples ever. Really laid back and so much fun. Jason was asked twice how he got such a wonderful wife - one time from a complete stranger.

Special thanks to Ashley and Lindsey from Ashley Raubach Photography who are incredibly talented and truly wonderful to have around on the wedding day. You have got to see the photos she captured - wow!

“You are My Sunshine”

June 29, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

Davina Fear just posted a sneak peak of some images she took of our family. She is a dear friend and an incredibly talented artist. In fact, she was one of my first blog posts ever... back in 2006.  You can see her post on our family at this link.

This is what I wrote in response to her post:

"Davina, we absolutely love you and love these images. You truly made our day by spending the afternoon with us. We had so much fun and it was great to eat ice cream and just hang out. I am so impressed with your sincere desire to serve us and treat us like family. I shoot with different photographers almost every day (literally!) and you have always stuck out in my mind as one of the most dedicated and genuine photographers I have ever met. There are some people that come into your life and leave a mark that you never forget. When you are with them you think, 'Wow, this person really is special.' You are one of those people.
Thank you, thank you so much for being who you are and sharing your incredible talent with us. We love you!!!"

Craig + Jeanette Pre Wedding Shoot

June 25, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

I flew back from Boston to find that Salt Lake's cold and drizzly weather had finally dispersed and left us with the perfect day for a pre wedding shoot! Craig & Jeanette and Doug & Nancy (Craig's parents) were so much fun to shoot with as we took our time and nailed some great shots. Fun times! Perfect example of why a pre wedding shoot is the way to go.

Africa is Life Changing

June 14, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

Just returned from Kenya, Africa with www.africaislifechanging.org. Amazing experience with 10.5 hours of footage to sift through (yikes!). Incredible team and beautiful people made the adventure so memorable. We even went on a few safaris and ran into a leopard, a pregnant lion, white rhinos and a few other creatures that would have loved to have eaten us :)

Thanks to Sue and Trenton for their interviews. The beautiful Kenyan girl is Maasai from the Masai Mara. The song she sings is in her native dialect, Maa.

Shot on Canon 5D MarkII, DP Slider, Glidecam 2000 Pro.

Kannon - Year Four

May 20, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

We have been filming Kannon once a year for the past four years and this latest adventure was filmed at Silver Lake in beautiful Brighton Utah. My grandparents have a cabin nearby and I use to come here often as a child. I'm sure you can see why I loved taking a break to enjoy God's great creations.

The song is Celestial Soda Pop by Ray Linch, one of Kannon's favorite songs.

Just remember, if you don't catch any fish you can always walk across the street and buy and ice cream and a HUGE gummy snake!

Shot on the Canon 5DMKII, 50mm, 15mm and 24 to 105mm and Glidecam 2000.

Emily + Matt Teaser

May 1, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

So easy to catch candids on this sunny day in San Diego as Emily has one of the brightest smiles I've ever seen. The wedding was at the San Diego temple and then we headed to Carlsbad for the afternoon reception. I put together this short teaser that evening.

Thanks to Diane Jones for being such an accommodating photographer.

Daron & Dani Bree were so much fun to hang out with on their wedding day. Their friends and their families are just the coolest plus I got to shoot along side the lovely Rebekah Westover of Rebekah Westover Photography (thanks to her referring me to Dani Bree & Daron). The blossoms were amazing and a perfect match for the wedding. It really was a wonderful afternoon!

Malorie + Brandon

April 16, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

Brandon & Malorie plus Jared Platt of www.plattphotography.com were great to hang out with yesterday. We shot this pre wedding shoot for the wedding today at the Mesa Temple. Sooo smart to film a pre wedding shoot because you have better lighting, more time and then you can just relax on your wedding day knowing you already have a great video no matter what happens.
Off to the wedding in a few hours :)

Hockey Night

March 28, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

Some good friends and our sons had a great time last night at the Grizzlies Hockey game. It was Drew's first time going to a hockey game and he had a blast. My favorite part of the night is the music. Love the Rock & Roll.
I grabbed a few shots and put this video together when I got home. The trick with making home videos is to get it done immediately or else it might never get done!

Fortress of Love… Heidi + Mark

March 26, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

The Draper temple seems to be a constant wind tunnel, which actually is great for video. Motion picture film studios pay for huge fans to be brought in to create this kind of look, but today it was free thanks to Mother Nature :).

Heidi and Mark were great to hang out with. They are so comfortable with each other and just really cool people. I love it when couples have a sense of humor about life and don't stress over the little things. I think that is key in having a successful marriage, which I'm sure this two will have.

Heidi wanted to keep the temple film more on the spiritual side with "I Love to See the Temple" being their soundtrack for this same day edit. It is amazing how much effort, sacrifice and determination goes into being sealed in the temple. It's a choice of staying focused on what matters most and living in a way that is an expression of service to your spouse, your future children and really all those around you. I love how the Draper temple looks like a fortress and I guess it actually is. A place to step away from one's concerns and busy life, to meditate and catch your breath while focusing on the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Great work you two and thanks for letting me come along for a wonderful day at the Draper Temple.

Sunny Snow… Collette + Steve

March 19, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

Ever seen it snow when it was sunny? Steve and Collette's wedding was a little bit of everything, including winter and summer! There are hundreds of weddings every day, probably every minute, but every single wedding is special and for that particular couple one of the most memorable moments of their life. Truly grateful that this afternoon I was able to take part in Steve and Colette's moment - it was beautiful, fun and sunny with scattered snow showers :)

Collette custom designed her dress. She was getting compliments from strangers, which wasn't a surprise. Truly amazing! Special thanks to Christine from Christine Olson Photography, the fabulous photographer you see featured on the film. Check out a few of her images from the wedding at this link.

Fiore Films EventDV 25 Finalist!

March 5, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films, Fiore Films | Leave a Comment

We were so proud and especially honored to read this morning, that Fiore Films was listed among the top 50 most influential event filmmaking studios in the world!
EventDV Magazine, a publication for all things event film related, held its annual awards show honoring the 25 most influential studios. This year, they decided to add EventDV 25 Finalists.
What makes this award so extraordinary? The votes come from none other than our very own peers across the globe!

A quote from the brilliant David Perry of David Perry Films, who was recently announced to be one of EventDV 25:
"Who says wedding films can't be sexy? Sharrone goes way beyond that, putting her films in a unique class all her own"  - David Perry, David Perry Films

Thank you so much David, and to all those who consider us to be a part of this select group of talents. We are truly grateful.

Unbelievable!

February 17, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

I flew down to California a few days ago to help film a wedding with my dear friends from Visual Masterpiece. Michael, Rebecka and Talon from Visual Masterpiece are such incredible people that it's always a blessing to spend time with them and so I knew it was going to be a special day. Then I met Joan and Stephen, the bride and groom. Wow, an incredible example of Christ centered living and an absolute joy to be around. Class act all the way.

I don't know if Joan and Stephen have even heard of a "Same Day Edit", but we surprised them that evening with an emotional video highlight of what had happened only hours prior. They had absolutely no idea it was coming. After their photo montage played on two large screens, you can see their expressions above as they were shocked and amazed with our little "surprise".

You have to ask yourself, how many times do you see that look on someone's face? Not everyday, that's for certain. I have worked so hard for over ten years to make a difference in other's lives, to focus on the good, to embrace the beauty and joy of marriage and the commitment to live a giving life. Seeing Joan and Stephen's expressions really hit home the magic and power that we have as filmmakers, especially on a night when they least expected it.

Fast forward only a few days later when I received a "surprise" of my own when I least expected it.

EventDV Magazine announced on their online TV show that I was named as one of the 25 hottest and most influental event filmmakers in the world!

This is the prese release:

MADISON, WI, USA—February 25, 2010—EventDV magazine has unveiled the 2009 EventDV 25, and David Perry of Salt Lake City-based David Perry Films was named to the list as one of the 25 hottest and most influential event filmmakers in the world. The honorees were announced in a four-part awards show presented this week on EventDV's online video channel, EventDV-TV.

“As the event filmmaking industry’s one and only all-star team, the EventDV 25 gives us the opportunity to recognize those filmmakers who are wielding the most influence today, through their innovative work, educational efforts, and outreach to other studios around the world,” said EventDV Editor-in-Chief Stephen Nathans-Kelly. “To make sure we recognize the right people, we turn the selection process entirely over to the ‘fans,’ and let our 20,000 readers pick the team. This year's team reflects the increasingly international flavor of the business, with representatives from five countries and four continents.”

In addition to voting for their selections, readers had the opportunity to supply a brief description of their chosen candidate’s merits. Of Perry, Chris P. Jones of Mason Jar Films (Top 25) in Austin, TX wrote, “David is the most positive person in our industry, and loves weddings more than anyone on earth. There isn't a more beloved producer around.” Sharrone Calafiore of Fiore Films (Top 25 Finalist) in New Jersey, NY had to say this about Perry, "Maestro of producing emotion by pairing spectacular images with captivating music. Although he is generous enough to share the secrets of his trade...No one does it like David."

Here's a clip from the EventDV-TV announcement produced by Whit Wales of Whit Wales Films (I did change the music during the video clip from what aired on the show.)

My mom cried, my little boy cheered and my wife gave me a big kiss.

Unbelievable!

 Check out the rest!

Check out some international superstars like StillMotion from Canada, reflejos | digitales from Spain, Moudanier Pictures from Australia, Jason Magbanua from the Phillipines and all the other Top 25 at this link.

Here are the Top 25 Finalists (26-50 best in the world) at this link. The Top 25 Finalists include filmmakers from the UK, Mexico, Russia, Greece, Canada, Australia, Phillipines and the USA.

My good friends, John and Jennifer Moon of Northernlight Filmworks had a great blog entry on being an EventDV Top 25 honoree. Check it out at this link. (Love their website design!!)

30 Seconds at 2 AM

February 14, 2010 | Filed Under David Perry Films | Leave a Comment

?Filming a wedding in one of California's oldest communities - San Luis Obispo. Our hotel sits on a cliff above the ocean, and the light reflecting off the incoming waves was so beautiful I had to capture some stills and a time lapse. I could listen to the ocean for hours - so powerful and so calming.

This shot took thirty seconds and a light to paint the rocks. Love how you can see endless stars in the sky.

Watch for the timelapse coming soon!
