What an absolute joy it was to film the enchanted wedding of Isabelle and Daniel…
A magical weekend at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, Ca orchestrated by the infamously talented {and incredibly loving + humble} Mindy Weiss. Isabelle is a girl after my own heart… she has a love for all things beautiful, romantic, enchanted and girly.
Being able to film this magical event alongside superstar photographer Elizabeth Messina we found ourselves giggling together with delight throughout the weekend as we captured all the wonderful textures and details that Belle had in store for us. From vintage style hair pieces from Leah C. to the Alice in Wonderland “Clock” cufflinks she gave her groom {see the film above!} this was a wedding like no other for a couple whose love is truly a romantic fairytale.
Filmed on both 16mm film and High Definition video enjoy the beauty of classic vintage film mixed with modern crisp cinematic picture. This is true bliss*…

We began shooting on the Canon 5DmkII camera’s after Re:Frame Austin this year and are just astounded by the saturated imagery this camera produces. One of our first shoots on it was documenting “A Lovely Workshop” by Elizabeth Messina. {which we are excited to share here very soon!}

It’s been an interesting journey shooting weddings on the 5D camera because everyone thinks we are photographers. We get poses and ’smiles’ left and right. So much so that I often find myself saying “click” just so that people will stop posing and start moving!
What has also been cool is the reaction from photographers {at first the shock on their faces thinking another photographer cramped their shoot!} but secondly, the camaraderie that is strengthened knowing that if the other needs to borrow a lens, battery charger, etc. that we have each others backs. Many photographers I’ve worked with have said that they purchased or are thinking of purchasing this camera because of it’s video capability, yet they still don’t know how to work with it due to time, not understanding the ingestion or how to edit it…

Divine and Decadent… this Jean Harlow silk chiffon dress from my favorite vintage boutiques : The Frock is simply sublime. There is just something so magical about the fashion of the 1920’s and 1930’s.

One of my favorite old films is The Gold Diggers of 1933. I love watching the costumes, choreography and set design of an era long gone by. The ladies look so glamorous with their perfect pin-curls and lined lashes.
The direction, cinematography and production design of the musicals of the 1930’s & 40’s is truly astounding. If you are a lover of old Hollywood, take a moment and Enjoy!

Megan and Steve had a beautiful wedding at Solage in Calistoga which was crafted by the super talented team at Map Events and photographed by one of our fave’s Meg Smith.
Megan’s wedding was featured in Martha Stewart Weddings this past spring. You can check out the Super 8mm intro for her wedding film that we created above. Super 8mm is the perfect compliment for couples that love texture and nostalgia, especially for brides wanting an organic homespun or vintage feel. What an honor it was to capture such a special day for them. Enjoy!

Favorite Finds Friday! A section I’ve longed to reveal since the inception of this blog. Kicking things off is the most delicious lamp + accessories company on the planet Luna Bella.
Two of today’s most diverse designers in the country, Nicolas Trujillo and Teresa Costa, are recognized for their wide variety of artistic designs in furniture and accessories. These lamps as well as their other furnishings are distinctive and unique, deriving from neoclassicism, gothic architecture, art nouveau and modernism.

If I were a music video….
It is all things sparkly, glittery and gold. Beth Ditto looks like a character out of Labyrinth and I love it. Besides being a killer song {produced by Rick Rubin} the video captures the essence of the power and mystique of Beth’s vocals perfectly. My only complaint? WHY isn’t the director listed? Even with a google search it’s nearly impossible to find out who created this Solid Gold masterpiece. If you know who the director is…. please share!

As you may have noticed, we have been very bad at updating the blog.
Traditionally the end of the year is a slow time for us, but not the case this year! We were jet-setting machines over the holidays with Kristen* and crew racking up over 300k air miles since our last post. So much has happened and we wanted to let you know that lots of great new work, info and insight is going to be hitting your screen VERY soon.

We are back in the land of Carrie Bradshaw this week (NYC) to do some socialite schmoozing and fashion flaunting of our own this week. Each Spring Modern Bride Magazine has their annual "25 Trendsetters Awards" at a super fabulous hotel in Manhattan complete with red carpet, celebs, paparazzi and wedding industry heavyweights. Truly, this IS the wedding industry event of the year.We were honored with the Trendsetter Award back in 2006 and since then, Modern Bride has commissioned us to create their "video opener" for the awards show. It's a thrilling and intimidating event because you never know who your going to see or sit next to! Last year we rubbed elbows with Deepak Chopra, met Michael J. Fox & Carolina Herrera {random?!} and in 2006 was greeted with a big kiss on the cheek from none other than Aidan himself..... John Corbett! {: Talk about a freak out! Move over Bo Derek! :}
This year is a special year for us because we actually created 2 videos for the awards one of which was a collaboration with Re:Frame, the organization we Co-Founded with 5 other companies. We can't disclose too much until the event occurs, but we will be sure to give you the inside scoop of who/what/where/huh? and post the videos once the party takes place!

We have spent more time on planes, buses, taxi's and tuk-tuks than we have in our own home's for the months of April and May. So with that said, we head back down to our neighbors of the South, this time to the beautiful fishing village of Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
Lots of Super 8 and 16mm film goodness will be had as well as inhalation of guacamole ala poolside when we get a chance to rest.
Our office will be closed until we return on May 27th.
