Don’t Stop Believing! Inspiration from Matt and Katie :)
November 30, 2009 | Filed Under Shadowplay Photography & Video | 1 Comment
We’ve just returned from our trip to Sydney where we photographed Courtney and Jason for their engagement shoot. Can’t wait to share the photos!
Our 4th wedding anniversary is in a couple of days (December 3) so while in Sydney we lived it up at the Sebel Pier One, and Katie was wined and dined at Wildfires. We also spent a day and half at Courtney’s parent’s horse farm a little south of Sydney and had such a wonderful time with all the family.
Last night we were suffering a bit of excitement deprivation so we spontaneously recorded this video. I mean, what else is there to do on a boring Monday night in Toowoomba? ;)
A bit of background … Katie absolutely loves Glee but Matt, not so much. However, there is one song he just can’t get enough of :)
Happy 1st of December everyone! Remember, don’t stop believing!
And … as we’ve found after 4 years of marriage, life is better when you don’t take yourselves too seriously :)

Heather and Johnny | Wedding Trailer | Malibu, California
November 30, 2009 | Filed Under Vivid Wedding Films | Leave a Comment
We don’t normally turn out trailers the day after the wedding, but since our flight from Los Angeles to Eugene got bumped, we had a few hours on our hands, and what better way to spend that time than putting together a trailer.
Here’s a quick look – a wedding day teaser – from Heather and Johnny’s wedding yesterday at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California.
Again, it was great meeting and working with photographer, Paul Thompson of Huntington House House Photography, their event coordinator, Mindy Roderick, Kim-Erin Justice, their florist and their DJ Kris of DJFX Entertainment.
Here’s also a look at their Love Story, which we filmed Friday. It played at their reception last night.
Thanks to Heather, Johnny and both their families for making this a fun trip for us. Hope you enjoy the trailer.

It was a beautifully cold day when Veronica and Scott were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. I’ve really enjoyed working with the Romney family (this is the third wedding I’ve done with their family) and I also was delighted to work with the Iglesias family for the first time as well. Getting married is such a special event for all involved and I feel so privileged to capture it. Veronica and Scott chose Retrospect Studios for their photographer, and it was a lot of fun working with them. Please leave a comment if you enjoyed the video!

Since last week was Thanksgiving I thought it would be fitting to post a wedding where the importance of family was very evident. When I think of Sara & Adam's wedding what I think of is love, family and history.
History/
The first day Casey and I flew in and arrived at about 3pm which was quite the anomaly for us. Over the past couple months, we had been seeing arrival times such as midnight, 2:00am 3:00am 4:00am (ouch) But arriving at 3pm was a breath of fresh air ;) In Virginia the sky was lit with a beautiful golden light and the air was crisp from the dense forests that surrounded the airport at Norfolk: afternoon arrivals from now on.
We kicked the rental car into gear and sped off to check out the coast, After an hour of driving we finally got to our destination, which was a dead end, blocked by a rusty gate....the GPS we rented from this 'unnamed' car company led us down a dead end. Now, our love for the ocean is not to be trifled with, so we did a quick search with the iPhone and got back on track, not to mention we found out a better location which was on a military base that had TWO lighthouses. One vintage and one new. Awesome ;)
We were able to climb up into the older one which we were told was THE first government commissioned lighthouse in the USA built in 1792. We climbed and climbed and finally got to the top...I had that moment where you look down, and then feel the butterflies in your stomach try to lift you off the ground. We could see for miles! And since there werent any hills like there are here in Seattle, the view was endless and only faded once it hit the line of the horizon. Casey and I had an amazing time exploring together and taking pictures 'just because'.
As we drove around we realized that nearly everywhere we went, we were surrounded by elements from the foundations of America. Now, before this trip, we had been in a whirlwind of traveling in and out of the country almost non-stop over the past couple months. Being apart from each-other for most of the time, and together for only brief moments. And here, being together again in this place was awesome. I think it allowed me to take a moment to stop, look back at where I came from and have a better view of where I am going; and want to go. Being around all these elements of history also made me thankful, appreciative, and lucky to be given the opportunities that I have, to be able to create the art for people that we do, and constantly teach me to give back to the people around me.
I think that sometimes the smallest of moments, can mean the world to someone. This is much like what we like to focus on in our work and with our couples. Capturing those small moments, that from a distance may seem ordinary and mundane...but when you stop, listen, and take a closer look, they contain a world of significance and meaning to the people whom stories they tell.

Love+Family/
From the first moment we met them, Sara and Adam and their family felt like ours. They all gave us huge hugs and smiles. It was a great experience to feel that connection with the people who you are working to creating something for. Sara's dad, Bill was one of the first people we met, and he introduced us to everyone at the rehearsal on Friday. From meeting him just once, you feel like he would do anything for you. Thats pretty much the standard of how everyone was who we met there. They are a great group of people. At every wedding people are happy, but at Sara & Adam's wedding everyone wasn't just happy they were ecstatic. Sara's dad was beaming ear to ear and Sara was in great spirits all day!
I would like to share with you Sara and Adam's same day edit. This was a very unique edit to us in that we only had 5 hours of editing time, start to finish to complete it (where we normally we have around 12). We knew it was definitely going to be a challenge, and we went in with the idea of capturing one complete message. We found this moment within the ceremony, and we decided to take all the elements of Sara and Adam's beautiful location and make them act almost like a character itself in the piece. Then paired with the officiants words and Sara and Adams time before they saw eachother. We were able to get the short and sweet edit that sets the tone for their longer Main Feature wedding film.

Sneak Peek: Gulf Coast Bride “What you need to know…”
November 30, 2009 | Filed Under Diva Productions Cinematography | Leave a Comment
Back in August, I let you know that I'd be writing a regular column for Gulf Coast Bride called What you need to know... The articles are straight talk from industry insiders, and for my first column I tackled the business side of hiring vendors. In this issue, I'm looking at what couples need to know to get the most from their wedding photographs and video.Thank you, thank you, thank you, Amanda Suanne, Anglea Dowling, Dede Edwards, Kim Stone, Mari Darr-Welch, Rae Leytham, Ryan Manthey, and Sarah Powers for being so generous with your wonderfully candid advice for couples and for sharing your images. I wish I could have included every bit of wisdom you shared, but we would have filled the entire issue, so some of it will be incorporated into upcoming columns :)
Gulf Coast Bride hits the stands this week!

Heather + Johnny | Love Story | Santa Monica, California

What an amazing wedding. We just wrapped up shooting Heather and Johnny’s wedding this evening at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California. The setting was beautiful and the people were too. It was great working with Heather and Johnny. We’re pretty tired now, but will post a few video stills and hopefully a trailer from the wedding soon.
It was great meeting and working with photographer, Paul Thompson of Huntington House House Photography (Huntington Beach), their event coordinator, Mindy Roderick, Kim-Erin Justice, their florist and their DJ Kris of DJFX Entertainment (it was a kickin’ party to be sure).
For now, here’s the Love Story that played this evening at the reception. We shot it Friday in Santa Monica and finalized the edit on Saturday.
Style Me Pretty Inspiration Challenge!
November 29, 2009 | Filed Under Meg Simone | Leave a Comment
Style Me Pretty posted a challenge to readers to create a wedding inspiration board to be brought to life by Event Planners and their Style Teams. The above board was created by Becky Devlin of Back Bay Flower in Virginia Beach. Meagan Gilpatrick of Maine Seasons Events contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I would be available to video the Inspiration Board coming to life. Meagan hand picked the team, and in her words, here are the talented, creative, wonderous and delightful components of this style team:
Brea McDonald of Brea McDonald Photography
Sara Fitzgerald O’Brien of Griffin-vites, Custom Watercolor Stationery.
Dawn Kelly of Soiree Floral, Floral Design and Creation.
Meg Simone, Videography
Meagan Gilpatrick, Design, Coordinating, Styling and likely prop providing!
I’m really jazzed because according to the Style Me Pretty website write up, this board is all about that picture perfect, Farm inspired wedding that is full of super chic details, and ironically I have a few farm weddings in my 2010 future
I can’t wait to meet and work with all of you! Thanks to Meagan for her hard work thus far, and for offering me a spot on her team ![]()

Desiree & Manny | No November Rain

“How can the weatherman predict the weather, let alone the future.” - Marty McFly, Back To The Future
Well, the forecast for November 28, Desiree and Manny’s wedding day, was rain. But the showers came in the early hours of the morning and the rest of the day was perfect. Though they never had to use one, I used the the love song “Umbrella”, a cool acoustic cover by Boyce Avenue, for their Same Day Edit. Congrats, Desiree and Manny!
Be sure to also check out their concept video, a movie trailer spoof of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”!

We spent this years Thanksgiving with Patrick and Amina in Seattle. We had an amazing time: painting, going on daily runs, watching movies with a projector in our living room, and in general, kickin it back for the holidays :)
On Friday we all drove up to Vancouver B.C. to visit Amish and Natisha. We spent the night and had an amazing breakfast at a place called Locus and I had some ammmmmazing oatmeal.
Yesterday we departed Vancouver, said our good byes and drove to Yakima, and spent the night having another thanksgiving dinner with all of our families. For dessert, BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP :) Danielle's dad made us a custom computer with 19 terabyte offsite file storage! awesome! Today we shot photos of our new niece. Ella!~ she is just under 1 month old. Here is one photo from the end of the shoot when there was a flock of birds that passed over. The rest of the images from their shoot will come soon :)

Off to London to shoot Nicole & Ben’s Wedding (via Paris)
November 28, 2009 | Filed Under David Robin Films | Leave a Comment
By way of Paris first! Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit one of my favorite cities in the world. My wife and I will be staying in a beautiful apartment across the street from Cathédrale Notre Dame. We wanted to live like Parisians for a week, hanging out at the local Brasserie, rather than doing all the typical tourist activities.

Then its off on the Eurostar Train, through the Chunnel and back to London.

Nicole and Ben get married on December 12th at the Park Lane Hotel, Piccadilly. Helping me film the event are none other than Sylvia and Niels from Ever After Video Productions, the best event filmmakers in the UK! I am honored to have them aboard.

I am very much looking forward to spending time with all my old friends and family.
UPDATE 12/15/09
Getting ready to leave London. Very sad to say goodbye, as I had such an amazing time. My family were so much fun to be around and treated my wife and I like celebrities. Nicole and Ben’s wedding was stunning, and although I worked really hard capturing the magic, i had a wonderful time. It was a bit of a surreal experience shooting, as 1/2 of the guests were my close relatives and friends. Thank god I had the amazing team of Sylvia and Niels from Ever After to help out. They did such a great job, and worked so hard, driving all the way down from Sheffield in the ‘orrible English traffic.
Special surprise was visit from Andre Foster. I looked up and saw him shooting on the dance floor. He had come straight from his own wedding in Croydon to help out. Pleasure to see him and honored he would do such a thing. The photos were taken by my lovely sweet friend Sharon Green and then Jamie Gordon. It was also a pleasure to meet and work with Jamie. He was so gracious and obliging, as I knew four event filmmakers on the dance floor at one time must have been really hard for him to get around and shoot. Here are some random images from the London trip:

More turkey - but isn't that the idea about all the Thanksgiving cooking? To make enough food not to have to cook for a while?Just carved up most of the big bird. Ate another plate of turkey gravy stuffing and sweet potato/carrot mousse flavored with clementine. The last on the plate is a bi-annual creation that changes from year to year depending on my mood and what's around the house. But it's always orange, sweet and tart. Yum.
Enough l-tryptophan to nap between snacking. Friday after the holiday is always a nothing day. Nothing scheduled. A bonus day with no name on my calendar. No commitments or projects. Nothing to do but veg. and eat.

we have been working with some wonderful people on this new idea for quite some time. we are actually quite surprised we managed to keep it a secret :)
here is a quick run down on how it all works. we each have our own individual blogs, which you can find by clicking on each one of us above. this is where we can share our travels, what we are up to, and other very unimportant yet hopefully rather interesting details about us. the bunk house will be the main blog that is what the old stillmotionblog was // the place we can share neat imagery of our awesome couples. you will also find our education blog from stillmotionexperience has now been integrated here too. neato.
you will find an rss feed on each of our personal blogs, so you can get updates from whomever you would like. we are working on some more updates and bugs over the next couple days, but from what we hear this type of posting to multiple blogs at the same time is pretty new, so please bear with us.
