They met on a bench out front of a hip coffee spot named Shokoe Espresso in Richmond Virgina and the rest they say is history! We had a wonderful time with Chris and Jana as we produced their wedding film. Chris and his groomsmen prepped for the festivities by starting the day off at Richmond's G-Force with some competition go-cart racing (seen only in the full film) while Jana and her ladies were treated to the hair and makeup talents of Lou Steven's "Glam Squad". The ceremony and reception were held at the Willow Oaks Country Club in Richmond Virginia. Chris is an avid fan of Virginia Tech and it was only befitting that Jana arranged to have a surprise visit from the Hokie Bird during the reception. It's always a pleasure to work along side the talented photographers, Pete and Liliana from PW Photography. Colleen Cook of CCS Events did an awesome job of coordinating the events of the day. Guests danced the night away along with the Hokie Bird to the sounds of Casper, one of the most entertaining bands around!
Thanks so much Chris and Jana for letting us be a part of your most magical of days!

We have been friends with Elena for a long time. We both went to the same high-school together and during my senior year Elena joined the dance team I was on. We became friends very quickly as she is full of vibrant energy and is always up for a good laugh.
A couple months before we had all met, Casey and I had sparked the idea of doing a cool fashion photoshoot with someone, and we thought she would be the perfect fit :) Elena was shy at first, but then started to gradually let her personality show and then towards the end she started to rock it out. That first shoot went awesome, and we all became good friends from then on. Everytime either of us would hang out with her we would say to her that she NEEDED to model professionally....
Time passed and she finally gave in :) and now Elena models for SMG and is off to an awesome career in modeling, as well as fashion in general (check out her blog www.acolorstory.com) over the years we have both become incredibly busy yet we always find time to work together and do something creative. I really love to photograph people, even when there isn't a specific reason but just to have fun. I love capturing the personality and expressions, those tiny fraction-of-a-second moments that would otherwise go unnoticed.
It had been too long, and it was time again for us to get together and do a fashion shoot. We got all of our ideas together and sketched out a couple concepts, then we approached Petra about doing the styling for it and we couldn't have been happier with the results. I love the vintage pieces she picked out and we definitely had a blast. It is amazing how far we all have come in the past couple of years! From the white bed spread sheet hung up in my living room as a backdrop for the first photo session....to now, shooting Elena with Seattle as our backdrop. Can't wait until next time, I think they'll be many more shoots to come with Elena! We love this girl.

Chris & Jessica’s Trailer from their Pelican Hill Wedding

Before I blog the Same Day Edit we did from Saturday's wedding in Edmonton, Canada, I wanted to post this film! Jessica & Chris wanted us to put together a short film to show at their 2nd reception. This is actually more of an extended highlights than a trailer, but you get the idea! It was a an absolutely stunning day at Pelican Hill and I loved the color combo this couple chose for their wedding (very unique!) Details Details coordinated all the details so everything looked amazing and ran super smooth. Sunny from White Lilac did an incredible job on the unique decor and Joe Photo took all the amazing photographs. Congrats you two!Elysium Productions: Stylish & Contemporary Wedding Video in Orange County and Beyond!
A Very Seattle-esque Wedding at St. James & Salty’s

On Saturday morning I woke up to the sound of rain and thought “Oh no…not today!!”. I knew that Jemima and Winston had set aside lots of time to take photos outside with Winnie Forbes and I could hardly wait to film their wedding and get some beautiful shots for their Same Day Edit. Thankfully by noon the skies cleared up and it turned out to be a beautiful late summer day…just in time for a sweet First Glance by the fountain at the Bellevue Club Hotel.
We LOVE to shoot at St. James…lucky for our clients the coordinators there love us too because we are able to create beautiful videos for our couples while still respecting their guidelines. It’s such a beautiful cathedral and Father Ryan is so warm and welcoming. Some of his words got me choked up this time, especially when I glanced over at Chris and though how lucky I am to be able to work alongside my husband and capture these amazing moments for our clients.
After the ceremony I jumped into the van (a.k.a. the edit-mobile) and started editing while Chris and Garrett filmed the newlyweds at Kerry Park and Parson’s Garden. By that time we were hungry and thirsty. There was a kid with a lemonade stand near Kerry Park who was awfully happy when Chris went over and ordered three lemonades, three bottles of water, and three Twizzlers. That totally hit the spot!
With the photo session complete, we all headed to Salty’s on Alki for the reception. What else can you say about the view of Seattle at Salty’s other than “WOW!”. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been there, but I still just LOVE the view. And it’s so cool to be there long enough to see the light change from daylight to sunset then into night when all the lights come on. It’s simply stunning and the guests really enjoy snapping tons of pictures of the skyline. As if the skyline and scrumptious food wasn’t enough, the guests also got to enjoy a photo booth, the Same Day Edit and a First Dance with some special “Rock the Reception” style dancing! I was OUTSIDE in the edit-mobile making DVD copies and could hear the hooting and hollering! It was great!
As we got ready to leave I made sure to find Winston and Jemima to say goodnight. Winston said “We knew the Same Day Edit was going to be amazing, but that just totally blew us out of the water! Thank you sooo much for such an amazing video!” and as I walked back to the car I over heard another guest telling Chris how cool it was to see everything they missed that day and how much Winston & Jemima would treasure the video in the future. It’s so neat to me to think that as much as they love their video now, it will only appreciate in value and importance in their family history. How cool is that?

Check out this video by Will Hoffman that Erika sent me, via Jonah Lehrer. Jonah writes: "At first glance, it's a mere collection of ordinary moments - a falling teardrop, an escaped balloon, a dive into a pool - but I think it's also evidence that the things we see every day, when carefully framed, can ache with ignored beauty?."The Wedding of Aaron and Cindy

We absolutely love when couples put a lot of thought into making their wedding unique. Cindy and Aaron’s wedding is to date the most unique wedding we have ever captured. We found out while Cindy was at the salon that she and her mother made her wedding dress, and this was not your typical dress. She asked Aaron how he envisioned her walking down the isle and that is what created. Cindy loves butterflies and the entire wedding theme revolved around butterflies, from some of the fabric in her dress, to the flower girls, to Cindy’s wedding band, to the cake, to the matron of honor’s speech. Cindy and Aaron even wrote their own vows, which always makes me tear up. We had the pleasure to film in the beautiful Chapel of the Resurrection at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. the stained glass windows are breath taking. The reception was held at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana. One of the highlights of the reception was the amazing band they selected, Crawpuppies. Thanks Cindy and Aaron for choosing us to document your day. We had a blast!

August 29, 2009 - The Wedding of Paula and MattIt may have been the pre-ring ceremony cello solo of Le Cygne (The Swan), by Camille Saint-Saëns that got them riled up. Just as Matt was beginning his vows, the Quail Meadows geese decided they needed to make an unscheduled fly-over.
Officiant Brian Lyke rolled with it - like it happened every day.

Yesterday we filmed Judy + Alex’s wedding in Vancouver. We starting out 1 hotel floor apart filming them as they got ready. After a great “first look” and photo shoot we headed out to the Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club for their ceremony and reception. Below is the Same-Day-Edit we created for them. Oh and just because everyone at the wedding seemed to have an iPhone, here is the direct link to watch the SDE on the go!

Romantic Super 8 Film

Alicia & Chad - In romantic Super 8 from Northernlight Filmworks on Vimeo.
This is a short film shot all in Super 8 film. Super 8 film was very popular back in the late 60's and early 70's. We shoot this on a vintage Canon Super 8 camera. The film is ordered on an as needed basis from California. We shoot the film and then have it processed at the same lab in California.
Super 8 does have a different feel to it. The texture is more organic than video and it enhances the romantic feeling of the day.
We also shoot 16mm film with another vintage 16mm Canon camera. 16mm is a very beautiful format.
This particular film of Alicia and Chad was shot at the historic Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.

Trashing the dress in Toronto with Bonnie and Pav was so much fun. These newlyweds were married in the Mayan Riviera on 7/8/9 and contacted us because they wanted a cool short film and photos of themselves just having fun in the big city. We started out at the docks where we were greeted by a huge sign that read "absolutely no filming or photography allowed" we asked ourselves "is this a sign?"Catching up!!

Seems like we've been skipping along from wedding to wedding since May. What a wonderful way to live and work! Just being, and loving being surrounded by lots of love, lots of loving couples and families... lots of opportunities to be a part of intimate celebrations.Last weekend while our wonderful Team 2 was holding down the fort with bride and groom My and Francesco and the Four Seasons in Boston (a big THANK YOU! to always fabulous Tasha Bracken and her great team from SD Events) Jack and I hauled our cams on to a plane, checked our equipment and took off to Baltimore to film my old HS buddy's daughter's wedding.
Laurie was the perfect bride. And, mixing being an honored guest with working the wedding, gave me the opportunity to join the girls' night out at a lovely restaurant; have my mani/pedi (while filming everyone else getting their's) with the girls; and having the friend - of - the -family privilege of being able to ask the groom to read (out loud) the card Laurie sent to him prior to seeing him ("Do I have to read it out loud?' -"Please, Brian, just for me !!") So we got to film intimate moments that were even more intimate than usual, got to eat better food than our usual vendor meals, and even got to squeeze in a few dances ourselves to a very good dj.
It was a whirlwind of a weekend with minimal sleep, but we had a great time and know we got amazing footage. We were even able to recruit a family member to shoot 3rd camera for us!
Wedding Same Day Edit of Pazong and Ryan
August 30, 2009 | Filed Under Epic Motion | Leave a Comment
They don’t get much cooler than these two. Pazong and Ryan were awesome to be with on their wedding day. They had the best attitudes, great smiles, and laughed all day. Their attitude was, “Hey – on the wedding day, if anything goes wrong, you just have to roll with it.” You would have never thought that anything went wrong because of their awesome outlook on things.
We shot all day yesterday, and our awesome team created this video to be shown at their reception last night… and this is why we call it the Same Day Edit.
We also worked with photographers Riva Sayegh and Tracy - they were super nice and we’re looking forward to seeing what they captured.

Thank you for inviting us to be alongside you guys and allowing us the honor of capturing your day. Also, thanks for setting such a great example of what it means to truly be in the moment – AND enjoy it! Lastly, we pray that your mom gets better SOON! Much love.
Claire and Paul’s Same Day Edit at Allerton Castle
August 30, 2009 | Filed Under Ever After Videos | Leave a Comment
OK, I admit it, I’m knackered. Yesterday, we filmed the last wedding of the summer season, complete with Same Day Edit. Today is the first day off our time off, well kind of… supposedly…
But I couldn’t possibly leave you for a while without putting that Same Day Edit on the blog. So let me quickly tell about Claire and Paul. Claire and Paul are a wonderful couple fromYorkshire who tied the knot yesterday at Allerton Castle in North Yorkshire (that’s one of our favourite venues here up north). It was a beautiful day, although at times somewhat on the chilly side. The wedding video was very important to them, they are part time videographers themselves, so decided that for their wedding, only the best would do. Well, that’s us!
We showed their Same Day Edit just before the first dance and they loved it (as did all the guests), so mission accomplished. Thanks to Jon from Exclusive Entertainments everyone was gathered around the screen to enjoy it. By now, Claire and Paul should be on their way, half way around the world, for a fabulous 3 week holiday in Australia. But for everybody else, here it is, Claire and Paul’s Same Day Edit!
As I mentioned above, we’re taking a little bit of time off. So if you are trying to reach us and don’t get a reply straight away, please don’t worry! We will get back to you as soon as we can (if you need to reach us, it’s best to email us). We’ll back in the office on 23 September.
