Photographers…. Listen Up!

March 31, 2009 | Filed Under Aubert Films | Leave a Comment

Hello to all of you visiting photographers! First, thanks for checking out my site and blog! It’s been great sharing my work with all of you great photographers!

I wanted to make a post to explain a little about photographer promo videos since I’ve been getting a lot of requests to do them lately. A promo video is a great marketing tool for you and your business. Why? Because it’s the best way to quickly and conveniently share with your potential clients your personality, style, and amazing work. Clients will be able to see how you work at a real wedding, fashion shoot, or e-session. I’m a firm believer in the idea that we sell relationships, not just a great product. An awesome promo video will help you establish those lasting and profitable relationships with your clients in a way that no other medium can accomplish. Your promo can be posted on your website, blog, facebook, and twitter accounts all adding to an effective form of marketing.

So, here’s how it works. Together we’ll come up with an awesome concept for your promo. Whether that be a cool, MTV style photo shoot, an interview/philospohy type of video, or some other off the wall idea, it will match your style and personallity and will show your clients just who you are!
Starting April 1st, 2009, $1500 gets you a standard 2-4 minute promo video. If your concept requires extra work, materials, models, etc., it will go up from there.

Don’t wait too long because that price might just go up pretty soon!

Here are some smart photographers already taking advantage of this introductory price:
Rob Nicholson
Mark Gardner
Jeff Dietz
Tunji Sarumi

Lacey and Evan - Sneak Peek (for real this time)

March 31, 2009 | Filed Under Shadowplay Photography & Video | Leave a Comment

As good as Evan and Lacey look small and blurry (see post below) - they look even better in focus!

It was so lovely photographing these guys. The connection they have is just beautiful, I really didn’t want the shoot to end - but we ran out of light!

So here is Evan and Lacey’s REAL sneak peek photo….

You’ll have to hold out until after Easter to see the rest of these ones … but it’ll be worth the wait ;)

Just Because

March 31, 2009 | Filed Under StillMotion | Leave a Comment

as our honeymoon draws to a close, i realize how important time can be. it can rejeuvinate, relax, entice, exhaust, and inspire. it also allows for selfishness - the doing of things just for onesself.

i've always loved photography - i've loved it for how it can make me feel, and for the connection with other people that it allows me to have. but it has been too long since i had a chance to take photos without any purpose other than to take them. no goals, no expectations, just pure art.

here are a few images that I took the other day when i took zok (our wonderful pooch) out for a walk. i explored a beautiful trail just next to our house that i never knew about. i now realize also that without my camera, there are many things that i would have missed.

Dan and Dena Keplinger: 2 Days Before the Wedding

March 31, 2009 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Leave a Comment

We were welcomed by Dan and Dena the good ol’ way - with several six packs of the local brew.

The laughter and conversations shared were plentiful… and Baltimore felt like home.

Becky + TJ’s HD Wedding Trailer

March 31, 2009 | Filed Under Joe Simon Productions | Leave a Comment

Becky + TJ were married at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin Texas on October 4, 2008. Becky is also a wedding planner here in Austin! It is always such an honor to be asked to shoot a wedding for someone else in the wedding industry. We had a great time at their amazing wedding! The decor was beautiful! The flowers designs were created by Bouquets of Austin and the reds just had such vibrance to them! The Lighting was handled by Ilios lighting, they always do the most amazing work. Blind Date was the music entertainment and kept the party going all night. What a great day it was and what perfect weather. Check out their wedding trailer below.

Saturday was one of those perfectly crisp days in Santa Fe and as we started shooting late in the afternoon the light just kept getting better! I’ll be covering Cory and Rena’s wedding at La Posada in August and it was great to spend some time with them during the engagement session.

VideoMonday: Group Dances

March 30, 2009 | Filed Under Vanessa McKellar Productions | Leave a Comment

In today's installment of VideoMonday, I'm presenting two videos that I find uplifting. The first is a compilation of a guy named Matt who has traveled the world and videotaped himself dancing in various locations with groups of locals.

Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) from Matthew Harding on Vimeo.

This one is one of those fascinating "people-show-up-in-one-spot-in-public-and-do-something-crazy" videos. Wish I could have been there to witness it.

There's something about these videos that just gets me a little emotional. It makes me feel like the world is a smaller place, and that humans exist together in perfect harmony.

For more "flash mob" type videos, check out Improv Everywhere.

Helena e Pedro – Trailer

March 30, 2009 | Filed Under Luís Rolo Video e Cinematographia | Leave a Comment

Showreel | This is Mintyslippers

March 30, 2009 | Filed Under Mintyslippers | Leave a Comment

Here at Mintyslippers we have had such an amazing year with some equally amazing couples. I’m sure you will remember James and Heena, with their  two ceremonys and three dress changes, and also Jez and Cat with their wonderful first dance.
We thought it was about time we compiled some of these best bits into a new showreel to demonstrate just what Mintyslippers are about.

I think the best way to describe this piece is “The little things” – those magical moments which make your wedding day special, from the little laugh from your best man during the hymns, or the moment you realise your wedding ring doesn’t fit.  It’s all these things which make your wedding movie something special and that little bit un-expected.

So, without further ado I present to you “This is Mintyslippers”.

We always love to hear what you think so why not leave us a comment.

Bessie & Alvin - Kahala Hotel

March 29, 2009 | Filed Under Edit 1 Media | Leave a Comment

Yesterday the Edit 1 Media team (Chris, Andrew and yours truly) had the honor of filming Bessie & Alvin’s wedding at the Kahala Hotel which is right outside of Honolulu. Alvin’s family is from Kailua but he and Bessie live in Seattle, so it was a semi destination wedding and the best of both worlds to have us filming their day.

The day was absolutely gorgeous…sunny and mild with some wonderful trade winds. Bessie looked amazing and was just so much fun to be around all day! Alvin was cool, calm and collected and seemed to be walking on air. It was a very busy day with preparations, Chinese games and a First Glance, a Chinese Tea Ceremony and then of course the Ceremony and Reception. We did a Same Day Edit using the same song that played during their wedding procession so it’s obviously a song that means a lot to them!

I have to say that the funniest part of the day is a toss-up between the “Rock the Reception” first dance and the crazy pictures people were taking in the Photo Booth. Bessie and her Maid of Honor took some super silly photos with Andrew that I’m sure won’t ever see the light of day. Thanks for making us take those, Bessie!

Destination: Baltimore

Dino Lara, Ryan of Mangored and myself are all rendezvousing in Baltimore for the wedding of Dan and Dena Keplinger . It’s the wedding of a lifetime for us.

I’m guessing the local media will be around. The Oscar winning producers of his life-story will be there for sure.

Anxious and excited.

I’ll try as much to post news in the blog. But for micro-updates, follow me on Twitter. (psst, look to your right —>)

oh rain, why are you so misunderstood

March 29, 2009 | Filed Under StillMotion | Leave a Comment

there are many ways one can approach a shoot.

some have 'b' in mind, and their journey begins at 'a'.

others lose themselves, and what emerges takes on its own breath.

and sometimes, we pick up a camera just because we are drawn to it. having no real purpose or intent, we just want to let light enter our lens to be taken by it all.

this shoot is one of the latter. as often happens though, what can start as something just for ourselves, can begin leading you on a trail of breadcrumbs.

this was filmed in three parts. the first two were just for fun (the live footage, and the conversation with amy). the last (the storm footage) was taken to complete the story. i find it fascinating how some parts that are so different can come together and lose their edges.

you can hear more of amy's music on itunes or at www.amyseeley.com

we will be working with amy on releasing her first music video for 'i've got ideas' this summer :)

Our Wedding: The Proposal

March 29, 2009 | Filed Under Vanessa McKellar Productions | Leave a Comment

Our proposal story is quite simple. It was some time in October nearly three years ago, and Brent and I were spending the evening together at my place. He was a bit under the weather, so he asked me to go buy him some soup at Walgreens. I obliged, and when I came back home through the door, the apartment was dark and there were candles lit in the living room. Brent was waiting there for me, and he said some sweet nothings, then got down on one knee and popped the question. I actually didn't believe it was real until I saw the ring glinting in the candle light in its little box. Of course I said yes.

I actually have a video of the whole thing, because that was the one "requirement" I had regarding the proposal. However, I'm sad to say that I won't be showing it here. My own dignity prevents that. I was wearing my infamous "J-Lo" suit (you know, the soft zip-up jacket thing with matching elastic-waist pants that is uber-comfortable and uber-ugly), and my hair was a mess, etc. Not exactly a look I'm willing to display on the internet. But here is a still frame from the video, when we were excitedly yelling at the camera and showing off the bling:

So after that, we changed into more presentable duds and went to celebrate at the restaurant where we had our first date. Before we left, we had our neighbor take a picture to commemorate the occasion.

This was such an exciting time for us. It was a thrill telling all our friends and family the good news. I loved staring down at my beautiful vintage ring knowing that I was wanted forever. And the best part for me was knowing that Brent had waited two years to put that ring on my finger. He wasn't one of those guys that you have to wait on, or cojole in order to get the committment. He was eager and ready and willing the entire time, and that's something that will always warm my heart.

Now that we were engaged, I had the green light to commence wedding planning!

Breathless

March 29, 2009 | Filed Under Vanessa McKellar Productions | Leave a Comment

When I came across this tablescape, I knew I had to repost the pictures here for your enjoyment. I found it on the Once Wed blog, and it's designed by Courtney with Flush Designs. Inspired by the French movie "Breathless" (which happens to be a movie we studied in film school), it has a 60's Parisian mod aesthetic. I love it! Who can resist vintage cameras, candy cigarettes from yesteryear, and pink fluffy flowers. Not me!

Here's the inspiration board that started it all:
