News Bites

November 30, 2008 | Filed Under Vanessa McKellar Productions | Leave a Comment

So I asked my friend Erika if she had any suggestions for improving my blog, and she said she'd like to see more posts. So here I am! I've tried to write a new post every fourth day or so, but now I'll try to do them even more frequently. I'm telling you readers this because it will help hold me accountable! That's news bite number one.

Number two is that I now (finally) have a Facebook profile. If you'd like to befriend me (and I hope you do!), you can do that here. If you are a Twitter-er, you can follow me here. Also, I've now added the link to follow this blog on the right of this page.

Thirdly, I will soon be starting a new series recapping my own wedding (actually, it will be from the engagement on). Even though it's been a year and a half now, I think it's appropriate for me to share with you readers the most amazing day of my life thus far. (After all, this blog is called VideoBride!) I have some great pictures to show, and I think it was a pretty unique wedding, so maybe it can give you some ideas for your own big day.

And fourth, I've been working on some exciting changes that should be revealed in December (fingers crossed), so be sure to stay tuned for that!

Destination Nicaragua ~ Frank and Scarleth Intro

November 30, 2008 | Filed Under Impressive Creations | Leave a Comment

Here is a little intro piece from a Destination Wedding my beautiful wife (and assistant) and I got to film in Nicaragua. What a beautiful place it is! It was really quite an adventure. After our long plane ride, we had a 3 1/2 hour drive (mostly on dirt roads) just to get to the Resort Location called Piedras Y Olas. It overlooked the most awesome emerald blue Bay. I actually got some really fun surfing in on this trip too. The water was 80 degrees!! Nice.. We had a great time hanging out and getting to know Frank and Scarleth, enjoying their spectacular wedding and having pool side Pina Coloada's!! Photos and a video snippet is below. We got to shoot this exotic wedding with their good friend and photographer, Marcos Serpas.

You can see their Love story in our Love Story section on our Web Site.

Enjoy..

Nic & Cam: Save the Date!

November 29, 2008 | Filed Under Vanessa McKellar Productions | Leave a Comment

Well, now it's really official, because the save-the-dates have been mailed! I wanted to share with you the super-cute STD's (that's wedding-industry slang for "save-the-dates"---I know, sorry) that Nicole and Cameron sent out. They were designed by Amy Dale, who is the sister of Laura. I fell in love with all of Laura's paper items at her wedding, and inquired about who made them. Turns out it was her sister, and we got in touch with her and found out that she was indeed very talented, and reasonably priced to boot. So Nicole commissioned her to design her paper suite for the big day. It's been a breeze working with Amy, and she's so creative and kind. You brides should definitely check her out. So here's the STD:

It's cute, isn't it?! My mom took the pics with the little old point and shoot, and Amy doctored them up to look a little photo-boothy. I love the energy here, and I think it's a great way for people who don't know the two as a couple to get a feel for their "vibe". You can tell that they're both super nice people, don't take themselves too seriously, and that they're going to have a FUN wedding.

And here's the (admittedly less interesting) back. Notice that the important details are all there: names of the B and G, date of the event, and location (the city, at least.) I've seen some STD's lately that don't include all of this info, and it can make your guests play the guessing game. Of course, like Nicole did, this is also a perfect place to introduce your guests to your wedding web site. Let me also point out that there is no registry information here. That's what the wedding web site and word of mouth are for. For some reason that is my biggest wedding pet peeve-mentioning one's registry boldly in every piece of printed material that is sent out. It's just plain bad etiquette! Anyway, I digress.
Next up are the invitations! They are almost completely designed, and they're really beautiful and unique. Once all the invited guests receive theirs, I'll give you readers a peek!

Our Wedding: The Very Beginning

November 29, 2008 | Filed Under Vanessa McKellar Productions | Leave a Comment

I suppose before I tell the story of Brent's proposal, I should first recount how we met! It all began in the summer of '04. I had just moved to Tyler and was driving to some friends' house, when a basketball rolled in front of my car. I stopped, and motioned for the guy chasing it to go ahead and retrieve his ball. He then motioned for me to go ahead instead, so I did. As I drove off, I thought to myself, "If that kid isn't 13, he's cute."

(Brent's rendition of that fateful moment, on a card he made for me years later)

Ten minutes later, he walks into my friends' house. Turns out he's a buddy of their's in town for the weekend from Linden, a small town 80 miles from Tyler. We chatted; I thought he was interesting. He thought I was...well, actually he didn't think much at all. He didn't even really notice me!

Fast forward several months and a few parties later (one at which, incidentally, he did notice me.) I dropped a hint to our mutual friends that I might be interested in Brent, and they went into a tizzy of excitement and within one week he was back in Tyler for a few days. We were both pretty nervous when we first saw each other this time, with the common knowledge that we were officially liking one another. We had dinner with our friend (I remember sitting next to him in the car and our arms barely touching and feeling that electricity between us), then he came over to my place. We proceeded to do fun and silly things together, including take pictures. This picture below was taken on that night, the night of September 6th, when it all officially started.

At the end of the night he asked me to go on a date the next weekend. From that moment, Brent was in Tyler every single weekend, and we were inseparable.

Janie Medley and Maria Cooke

November 28, 2008 | Filed Under HumanStory Wedding Day Films | Leave a Comment

I had a great time shooting this promo for Janie Medley today.    It was very cool to witness someone so passionate about her craft and see her in action designing a table arrangement.   In addition to being a great floral designer, Janie writes one of my favorite blogs, the Brides Cafe.

I was also able to meet Maria Cooke from Ritzy Bee.   Maria has a great eye for design and is such a good person. I can tell why her clients love her.   Maria is also a dedicated and talented blogger.

The other part of our team was the famous photographer Keith Cephus.   Keith is really so good at bringing out the best in people.   He was so much fun to work with.  Really great guy.  Check out his amazing work.

Here is the promo we shot for Janie.

Cynclaire and Raffy, Back to Bora

November 28, 2008 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Leave a Comment

A hot pink bridal gown. That pretty much sums up (and everything it connotes) the wedding of Cyn and Raffy.

It was clearly established at the eve of the event that this was going to be a SUPER FUN wedding with not a sober person within a kilometer’s radius.

My team and Dino’s were hammered at the engagement party. What with the free-flowing cocktails and beer. We were systematic - doing it alphabetically - starting with the Amaretto Sour, going through the Mojitos and ending up with the Weng-Weng.

And somewere along the buzz came the drunken idea of the “perfect cocktail”.

Cynclaire and Raffy - Same Day Edit from Jason Magbanua on Vimeo.

Of course, in order of the hot pink bride to stand out, everybody was required to wear white.  Who was I to go against the dress code? ;-p

O Fortuna Wedding Same Day Trailer | 11.7.08

November 28, 2008 | Filed Under Pennylane Productions | Leave a Comment

Amy and Dek got married on November 7, 2008 at St. Patricks Church in Bayshore. They continued with an incredible and charismatic photo shoot at the legendary Old Westbury Gardens. Later their recepetion followed at the East Wind Caterers in Wading River. Thanks to their wedding planner Francesca from Dazzling Affairs, their wedding day flowed flawlessly. Amy came up with the cutting-edge idea to use the epic composition of "O Fortuna" which has been heard in 100's of movies including Natural Born Killers, Speed, The Doors, and The General's Daughter to name a few. Take a look...

Tamika - Formal Photos

November 28, 2008 | Filed Under Shadowplay Photography & Video | Leave a Comment

I’ve been waiting a very very long time to be able to share these photos with you! I’m so excited that I can finally post them!

Tamika was an absolute dream to photograph. Not only is she stunning but she really knew how to work it for the camera as well! This girl could easily be a model - no doubt about it. Tamika’s mum Sherie came along for the photoshoot and we enjoyed the most lovely time with the two of them.

Tamika had her formal tonight at the Cathedral Centre here in town. I’m sure that she blew everyone away with how amazing she looked.

Here are my favourites from her photoshoot.

Congratulations Pauline & Terry

November 28, 2008 | Filed Under Moudanier Pictures | Leave a Comment

Congratulations to Pauline & Terry who celebrated their wedding ceremony on Saturday 22nd November 2008 at St Paul Of The Cross Catholic Church in Dulwich Hill.

Press the play button to watch their On-Line Highlight.

The theme for the day was glamorous and even thought there was a constant battle with the weather, if it wasn’t raining hard, we had a hot sun and really strong winds, but that didn’t dampen the mood of the day and we definitely filmed some very elegant and glamorous moments.

Pauline’s day started out at her auntie’s salon were she was pampered along with her bridesmaids Irene, Kaitlyn & Joy. While the girls were busy getting their hair and make-up done, Evro was filming the detail shots of her gorgeous Sheath style gown featuring a sweetheart neckline which showed off Pauline’s hourglass figure beautifully and her accessories including a stunning Diamante Headpiece and Earrings.

The mood at Terry’s family home was claim and relaxed although Terry was a little nervous about giving a speech in front of family and friends.  The Best man, Marin and groomsmen Robert & Denis along with three of Terry’s mates from work where there to help him get ready for the day.  We even had time for some fun on a friend’s Suzuki GSX motorbike.  Naturally, both the Bride & Groom arrived at St Paul in a Sliver Lexus provided by Lexus of Chatwood.

The interior of the church resembled a photo from a stylish bridal magazine thanks to Pauline’s sister Joanna who spent most of the morning decorating the church in time for the ceremony. Terry become very emotional as he saw his glamorous bride walking toward him. Their ceremony was very moving and I don’t think there was a dry eye during the second reading by the bride’s sister.

Unfortunately, due to the strong wind there was only time for one group shot outside the church before heading out to the city for the uber creative part of the day.  Our first stop was the GPO at Martin Place, where the couple literally stopped traffic! The bride would like to officially thank the passer-by who commented to the groom “Lucky Guy”!!  Our next stop was Bar 333 were the bridal party relaxed and enjoyed a few drinks before heading down to The Rocks.

The couple celebrated into the night along with their guests at Doltone House Sylvania Waters; the entertainment included the Brazilian & Latin American Dancers, aka ‘Hotbeat’ and sometimes ‘Ritmo Latino’ Even though Terry was very nervous about his speech he did a great job and most importantly didn’t forget to thank Pauline for all the hard work she put into organising the wedding. (Pending grooms take note!!)

We’d like to thank Pauline & Terry along with their families for looking after us thoughout the day. A big thank you also to Fivo and Jacinda from Imagination Photos, whom we always have so much fun with on the day.  A big thank you to DJ Jimmy V for giving us audio access to his DJ console and the microphone system, also thanks again to to the Master of Ceremonies Con Sikallos - always a pleasure working with you.

Trash the Dress??? How about the entire wedding Party?

November 27, 2008 | Filed Under United Wedding Productions | Leave a Comment

You saw the Trailer ... now here are some highlights from the reception. Set in the picturesque "Celebrations" pool house, Megan and Steve  enjoyed their wedding day festivities. It was just around 9pm when the idea of jumping in the pool started to circulate amongst the crowd. Although we didn't see the bride enter the water, we did witness most of the wedding party go "wet"! Once again we had Bill Gilliam, Choice Entertainment at the helm of the reception festivities! Always a pleasure Bill... thanks for all you do! Megan from Da Da Video.. it wouldn' t have been possible without your help either!

Enjoy some of the moments from this wild evening that lead up to the group swim.

Our buddy at Blue Print Events

November 27, 2008 | Filed Under StillMotion | Leave a Comment

Last July (the 27th of ‘07) we were invited to shoot the wedding of Jaime and Paul. Jaime’s rather infectious personality got to us right away, and we quickly became friends. You may remember some of Jaime’s antics from her highlights video posted here a while back.

After Jaime’s wedding was over and she had returned from the honeymoon, she just couldn’t get enough of weddings. She came into our studio as a tempo Studio Manager to help us through some busy times while also planning some of our events (such as our grand opening party). Sadly (for us), as Jaime started planning more and more, we got less of her time and she went on to become a certified planner and open her own planning company- Blue Prints Events - www.bpevents.ca.

Jaime is now organizing both of our workshops at SM this coming January, and will also be planning the wedding for Amina and I (more news on this coming soon), which we are very excited to have her a part of.

Jaime offers both full coordination and same-day coordination. Check her out // she will certainly make our wedding experience that much more of a blast.

I know this has been a hard year for many… my hope is that each of us would be able to see the good - that we would be grateful for what we do have - and that hope would still be something we hold on to.

There is much to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving.

Get Hitched Give Hope: MIND|Castle montage

November 27, 2008 | Filed Under MIND|Castle Studios | Leave a Comment

header_01

A couple weeks ago Danielle and I had the opportunity to be part of the Get Hitched Give Hope charity event to raise money to aid in ongoing research to find a cure breast cancer.

Danielle and I had a great time, it was incredible to be part of a charity event. I think in total, they raised over $30,000. AWESOME!!!

Danielle and I had a table at the event and we put together a short montage of footage from some of the weddings we shot last season to show.

Here is what we put together: Enjoy.

Montage for Get Hitched Give Hope from Casey Warren on Vimeo.

(song note) The song used in this video is called “Disarm” by Ben Rector. Hes got a ton of awesome music, you should check it out on iTunes. We also used this same exact song in Nathan and Jenna’s SDE. We were having trouble finding a song to use in the SDE and we showed Nathan and Jenna the GHGH montage and they loved the song and we couldnt resist in using it for the SDE.

Children on Film

November 26, 2008 | Filed Under Vanessa McKellar Productions | Leave a Comment

Here is my latest "Children on Film" video. This is the Maresch family; some of my favorite folks in the world. We took an afternoon and let the kiddos and their parents tromp around their land. There's something so neat about watching such a great family- they are comfortable, they love each other, and they have fun together. Doesn't get much better.

The Maresch Family from Vanessa McKellar Productions.com on Vimeo.

These "KidVideos", as I like to call them, are something I developed years ago as a way to document families in an authentic, natural, and exciting form. No perfectly pressed jumpers, hair wetted down by spit, squirming in an uncomfortable stool, squeaky toys to catch their eye...this is your kids being their amazing little selves. Their sweet little voices, their laughter, the way they dance and run and jump.

Mary and Ryan are giving these out as Christmas gifts this year- which I think is an idea worth stealing. Get in touch with us if you'd like to find out more about having one of these keepsakes made for your family. Plus, it will tide Brent and me over until we decide to have little ones of our own!

As a special treat, you can watch Brent's KidVideo. This is his editing debut, and I think he has knack for humor and storytelling. I'm excited to see how far he will go!

Another beautiful wedding..

Wedding Trailer - Jennifer and Yaron from Impressive Creations on Vimeo.

We had the opportunity to film this wedding at The Regis Beach Resort in Laguna Niguel. We shot along side Orange County wedding photographer Bob Ortiz. Him and his assistant were super cool and they were very helpful throughout the day. Thanks guys. Then it was off to their reception at Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach. Got to work with Alyssa. She was great! What a cool artsy place. They even had like 50 little tiny TV that was showing our Same Day Edit all over the place. Very cool..

Hope you all enjoy the video and Happy Thanksgiving..
