Docfarm

Wow, my sister and I just returned from a documentary filmmaker retreat near Arlington, WA called Docfarm and it was so amazing in so many ways. We met some great people from all different backgrounds and interests which made the experience very rich. The event took place on the Smoke farm a rustic beautiful 300 acre farm with the Stilliquamish River flowing through the land. We gave a showing of some clips from our doc work in progress called Rubber ear and got amazing feedback. We left inspired and fulfilled. Wonderful experience. Can't wait to keep up the relationships with all these wonderful filmmakers!
We shot Erin and Chris' wedding yesterday and it was so cool, literally we froze, but her parents raided the closets and brought out arm loads of winter coats. So we bundled up and danced the night away to a great band Mango Fish trap. So much fun! They played the love story video we produced during the reception and it was a fun tear jerker.

I thought I’d tell you about my day! It involved Me, a camera, a bride, a groom, a wedding party, a wedding, and a lot o’ fun!
I woke up this morning and it was TOTALLY sunny! I was pretty pleased as I set out to battle the awesome long weekend billion car QEW traffic to Niagara! Good thing I left myself three hours for driving (a drive that usually takes an hour). When I arrived at White Oaks for my wedding with Melissa and Grant (high fives!) I looked over the list of other events happening at our venue and giggled a little at this:

Melissa is STUNNING! Phew, what a beautiful bride! When I arrived we went straight into photos of her, something I don’t usually have the time to do. I’m super happy with the results:

Grant is a really great guy, he works for the government as a federal agent keeping our country safe!

Today was GREAT! Thanks so much Melissa, and you too Grant! We had so much fun and I can’t wait to show you everything!
I also, on a personal note.. HOW CUTE IS MY NIECE?

She was giving uncle John a berry! Aww!
And finally, to all the brides of the world.. funny.
Have a wonderful weekend folks!
-John.

For this wedding, I had the greatest of experiences shooting the most intimate of weddings of the nicest of couples I’ve ever had the pleasure of serving. Sorry, but I will never run out of superlative.
From the time I entered Rychelle’s room for the preps, until the time to bid goodbyes, there was nothing but warmth and gentleness exuded by both families. How could one not exert the best of efforts to deliver?

Nicole & Toby’s Same Day Edit - Montage, Laguna Beach
August 28, 2008 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Leave a Comment
Nicole & Toby had a beautiful wedding this past Saturday at Montage in Laguna Beach. The decor was very unique and very luxurious. I loved the long tables with gorgeous blue & brown linens. If you're looking for an event designer, look no further than Christopher Aldama. He does a fabulous job (as you can see in this video!) it was fun to see Jon Barber again... he is always so cool to work with and does a fabulous job with the photos! Jeannie Savage from Details Details helped pull everything together from the decor to the coordination. I think I can safely say that because of the awesome team she pulled together and the amazing couple and their families, this event turned out to be "off the hook"! So check out the Same Day Edit that was shot AND edited in High Definition. It was played right after the cake cutting when the plasmas surrounding the room were "revealed". Definitely a cool way to show this video!Behind-The-Scenes Video

I'm so excited to share this brand new behind-the-scenes footage from the making of our current issue. There are glimpses of all sorts of lovelies (from Louboutin to Valentino, Oscar to Vera... this issue provided us with some glorious eye candy). It's also fun for us at the office to look back on what goes into creating each edition. It certainly inspires us to get back to business as we head into our next series of photo shoots for our upcoming issue. Enjoy! :) Behind-the-Scenes with WedLuxe from Cloud Nine Creative on Vimeo.Road Trip: Part 1

Brent and I just returned home from our nearly two-week trip to Florida. Overall we had fun, but we found that we were quite ready to come back to Tyler and catch up on business (it sure piles up!), eat a home-cooked meal, and sleep in our own bed. But of course as a dutiful blogger I must post about the trip! The first stop in our road trip was New Orleans. Neither of us had been there, and we figured it was time to check it off our list of cities visited. I found a great deal on the internet for a pretty nice hotel on the edge of the French Quarter, and it served as a good launching point for our explorations. We walked around the French Quarter and along the river (and into the breathtaking church in the bottom right photo) the afternoon that we arrived, and that evening we had a unique and tasty dinner at Cafe Degas, a quaint little restaurant that was the top recommendation for a romantic dinner. Our waitress told us about her favorite little sweet shop, so we headed there afterward and indulged in coffee, fresh connoli, and few other bizarre Italian treats.
By now it was dark and we figured we were obligated to check out Bourbon Street. We quickly realized that we like this area more during the day. But when we found Pat O'Brien's Piano Bar we relaxed and got carried away by the entertainment. On our way back to the hotel, we ducked into a dance club and boogied to all of 3 songs (you know, songs we hear every weekend at weddings but we're not allowed to dance to). The next morning we stopped by Cafe Du Monde and ate a pile of sugary beignets complemented by a cup of cafe au lait. It was delicious, and fascinating to watch the wait-staff work (they actually have to buy each item before they serve it!)

So that pretty much concluded our high rollin' in The Big Easy! Next we proceeded to our condo at Perdido Key in the Gulf Coast. I was super excited about bumming on the beach for nearly two days, but the pervasive stinging jellyfish and biting flies sort of put a damper on that. But we did get to eat seafood while we overlooked the view in the bottom left picture. My two favorite parts were walking on the beach with Brent: once at sunset where we observed a man catch a fish that looked like a tiny whale and a catfish combined (well, sort of observed; I got really excited and ran up and got all involved and "helped" the fish make its way back into the water after the fisher released it), and the second at midnight where we watched a neon red moon slide behind the ocean. The next morning, we said goodbye to the sea and set off on leg two of our journey...

Did that get your attention? Good. Mark your calendars for this (free) bridal show on November 2nd and you could win the $1000 door prize (or maybe a handshake from yours truly). Don't worry, I'll be there even though my name isn't on the flyer, and so will a lot of other unlisted vendors! (And if you win the prize you gotta give me a cut because I told you about it.)

In the current issue of our Toronto & Eastern Canada Edition we feature the 'spectacular' wedding of Kelly Crothers (of the Chairman Mills Crothers, that is) and Charles Smith. Their day was photographed by the incredibly talented Storey Wilkins. I say spectacular not just because it's a stunning wedding with impeccable design details (don't you just LOVE the oh-so-fresh colour palette that combines 'kelly' green with cream?) but, it really is a spectacular wedding, per se! Toronto-based Event DesignerMelissa Haggerty of Spectacular Spectacular orchestrated the day to perfection for Kelly and Charlie. We found out today that we won Channel 6 A-List as Indy's Best Wedding Videographer!
Business has been great in 2008 and we are looking at 2009 as being an even better year. We have had a blast getting to know new people, meeting new collegues and seeing new places and there is more to come.
We never want to be comfortable with were we are at and we are always looking for opportunities to improve our cinematography and editing, whether in the form of new tools or just working on our shooting skills. We will be attending ReFrame in New Orleans in October and then again in April we will be in Austin, Texas. As important it is to invest in good equipment, we believe it is equally important to invest in yourself as well.
Thanks to everyone that voted for us. View the comments here: Northernlight Filmworks A-List

Something Different
August 27, 2008 | Filed Under Wedluxe Magazine | Leave a Comment
When it comes to choosing the design details of your wedding (gown selection included), your choices will reflect your own personal style. Having said that, it's somewhat surprising to me that I regularly review wedding story submissions (featuring real-life Canadian brides) where brides from all parts of our very expansive country are wearing the exact same gown(s)! True, this means that our readers have collectively great taste...but it also proves that there is room to 'mix it up' a bit when it comes to bridal gown selection in Canada. :) These two lovely black and white numbers by Marchesa fit the 'something different' category quite nicely. Marchesa gowns have been worn by a whose-who list of Hollywood elite. (Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, Lindsay Lohan, Sienna Miller to name but a few.) Marchesa does not currently retail their brand-new bridal line in Canada *as yet* but they do offer some show-stopper luxe gowns that can be found at Hugo Nicholson in Toronto or at Holt Renfrew. If you're located in the states or you're heading south for a shopping spree you can find these fabulous frocks at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus or Saks.Party Time!

I thought I would put something a bit different up today. Here is a dancing section from a wedding I'm finishing up. This takes place at the Oasis, and as you can see the view and sunsets are amazing! These guys know how to hit the dance floor! The day after storm signal no.9

It’s lucky that the storm arrived at the day after we came back from UK so our flight was not affected so we can back in time to shoot the wedding of Mandy & Meng.
It’s lucky that the weather became better on their big day. There was still raining in the morning. The rain stop in the afternoon and we can see the sunlight through the stained glass in the church! Shooting this wedding was feel like we’re not back to HK cause Meng & his family are English speakers. He always kiss Mandy without asking from the photographers. We always think people should enjoy their wedding and relax. We also like the song they choose for the same day edit.
It’s lucky that we have chance to work with two HK famous wedding photographers together in one wedding. Lawrence Tsang & Simonthephoto - we have worked with them before individually. But this time, we work along side with BOTH of them together in ONE wedding. You can always learn a lot from those masters. Lawrence’s team are always helpful specially I’m shooting along. With their friendly reminder, our blog has not been update for a long time(Yeah! they read our blog!) and we shall do it more frequently(we’ll try our best).
Why everything is so lucky? Maybe Luckymui is here, haha. Think positive!
Here is the same day edit.

Ashley & Tyler - Wedding Highlight

On March 8, 2008, Ashley and Tyler were united in marriage at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Liberty, Texas. Two hearts together now as one. The beautiful, bright pink accents were carried through from the bridesmaid's sashes to every little detail at the reception at The Liberty Center. It was a glorious day full of love and good wishes. Our congratulations to the happy couple.
