Beautiful Mountain Scenes + Beautiful Bride = Beautiful Film.

Kristen and Dennis decided to tie the knot in Big Bear late last year and Impressive Creations was so fortunate to be able to capture their moment on film.

I love the colors on this film!!

Enjoy,

Destination: Nevis, West Indies

DSCF1364

I woke up this morning and this was the view from my bed, so I thought I'd take a picture.

You might've guessed that I'm not in Waco today.

I'm on the tiny island of Nevis in the West Indies to film the wedding of Taryn and Alex, a fantastic couple from New York that found me through Abby Larson's Style Me Pretty blog.

Last night was my first opportunity to meet Taryn and Alex, and they are quite an amazing and accomplished couple.  During the rehearsal dinner at the Montpelier Inn, their friends regaled the crowd with stories of their friendships throughout the years.  I was honored to be invited to share in such an intimate occasion with their inner circle.

I will be working alongside New York photojournalist Karen von Voigtlander, who, interestingly enough, shot her first destination wedding as an assistant to my officemate Huy Nguyen.  We will be covering the ceremony at a unique location, the ruins of the Cottle Church with reception and bonfire to follow at the 4 Seasons Resort.

I'm shooting all super8 on this one, so you'll have to wait a while to see anything.  In the meantime, enjoy my pics!

Christmas in May

[I meant to post this a few a weeks ago but things got crazy busy…]

I am going thru an ‘Extreme Makeover’ and it is exciting! I am making a wholesale move to HD! What does that mean? It means I am replacing every piece of equipment: cameras, computer, laptop, editing software, encoding software, monitor screens, batteries, lights, camera bags, microphones, ect…

For the last two weeks I have been receiving deliveries almost every day. Feels like Christmas opening all those toys…uhm…equipment boxes. My living room is full off boxes.

I’ll say this, we are pretty darn lucky. Rarely do we have couples who won’t do what we ask.. usually, there are limits, but they’ll do what we need them to in order to get the shot. Betsy and Chase have NO LIMITS (well ok, Betsy drew the line at the dead crow) and they where SUPER fun to work with. Chuck, the father of Chase hooked us up with this AMAZING photo session location and I shot my little heart out. Unfortunately we left Amina at home for this one so I shot alone, but Patrick was kind enough to come shoot with me during our second photo session location. It’s always great to have a second set of eyes. I’ve included a couple of his photos.

The location we had was a really neat old abandoned wearhouse, as Patrick aforementioned, Chuck and the whole family did a lot of work to get us in and we’re extremly greatful for that.. it’s always nice to work with people who REALLY care about the location of their photography, doing something fun, unique and to them totally timeless. In this industry, many will preach the wonders of standing under a tree on your wedding day and looking at the camera with a smile. I have no problem with that, it certainly works for some . But it’s been done time and time again, and to create something unique on your wedding day, something you don’t see every day, that is something truly special. I believe that originality is what makes the imagery our couples receive THEIRS, art they are proud to call their own.

I have a great deal of respect for our couples, Betsy and Chase are no exception to this, they truly are amazing.

img_7524.jpgimg_7558.jpgimg_7436.jpgI’m very proud of Patrick, when he switched mediums he creates some great images:

Patrick and I shot this photograph to show how amazing the use of specialty lenses in wedding photography is when you know how to use them correctly. It can really add so much depth to an image and pull your eyes right to the subject.

Emily & Michael’s Wedding Highlights

Run Time (4:00)

May 10th, 2008 Wilmington, NC

I’ve been sitting at the computer for 30 minutes trying to type something, I just don’t have any words for how beautiful this wedding was. Michael and Emily indeed showed all of us present at this wedding a true example of unconditional love and pure JOY. I mean, if you watch this video, just look at how genuinely happy they were the entire day, even with a posse of photographers and videographers hanging around! (just kidding, we consider ourselves fun to hang out with). When I see a couple this happy, this beautiful and this fun, it makes me really appreciate my job and what we provide families. I couldn’t stop having fun editing this video, and I hope you see why. I throughly enjoyed working with Piner Photography as we all had fun stopping traffic downtown and hanging out in alleyways. Hopefully we surprised you (Emily and Michael) a little early with this video. It’s too bad you guys live so far away, Melissa and I want to be friends with you! Enjoy spreading the video to all your friends and family and leave comments to let us know you stopped by! Congratulations to you both.

Matt

Kristen and Nathan, Intro

May 28, 2008 | Filed Under Mason Jar Films | Leave a Comment

Here I find myself again, the middle of the week and still high from the experience of documenting another beautiful wedding.

Kristen and Nathan were so calm before the ceremony.  Peace permeated the day, perhaps because the wedding ceremony was conducted at Kristen's family home.  Like any wedding, it should feel like coming home.

Their equanimity could also be attributed to Event Designer Holly Tripp's flawless planning and execution of all the day's events.  Everything was under control.

For the the 2nd week in a row, Absolute Lighting created an elegant ambience at the reception, this time at the Belo Mansion, accentuating the intricate detail of the floral arrangements by Freesia and the cakes crafted by Frosted Art.

Thanks to Kristen, Nathan, and their families for including us in the most glorious moments of their lives.   Enjoy the first coupla minutes of your documentary!

Same Day Edit - Cindy & Eric

May 27, 2008 | Filed Under Take 1 Productions | Leave a Comment

We had the pleasure of doing a Same Day Edit (SDE) for Cindy & Eric on Saturday. For those of you that do not know what a SDE is, let me explain. What we do is we edit a Recap of the wedding day and show it on a projection screen at the reception. This is something NEW we are offering this year. You can add a SDE option to your package or purchase a SDE only package which is limited to certain days. Not only will a SDE make your reception unique but it will WOW your guest.

Cindy was a great Bride. She had on a classic wedding dress which was simply beautiful. Joanne kept on commenting to me on how classy Cindy looked with that dress...she looked liked "Grace Kelly". I agreed of course.

The photogs of the day were Jessica and Nate from Jessica Johnston Photography . We love working with these guys as they are very creative. I will post some of their pics below once I get them from Jessica. Also had a chance to work with Kate from Purple Clover Events again. Kate was very organized and made sure that the projection and sound system was in place for me to show the SDE.

The SDE below also shows the reaction of Cindy and Eric as they watched it. FYI: the ring on Cindy's thumb was her Dad's wedding ring who passed away a few years ago.

Jessica + Ryan - a dandy SDE

May 27, 2008 | Filed Under StillMotion | Leave a Comment

Well Jess and Ryan, the wait is finally over and you get to see your SDE again :)

What a crazy weekend it was. On Saturday I had to climb through a window in a clothing factory to get into our photo-session location. We had the plant manager on the phone, but he was in another city at the time and the workers inside couldn’t hear us over the noise of the machines. After seeing some of the finished photos from Chase and Betsy’s wedding the previous weekend (aren’t you going to share those with everybody John???), Jess and Ryan really put the pressure on us to find an equally cool spot to shoot and we couldn’t let this chance pass by.

After showing their SDE around 11PM, I headed back to the studio and got ready to fly out at 5am the next morning for Anita and Sanders wedding that day. While I certainly wouldn’t recommend trying to shoot two weddings, in two days, in two countries- Anita and Sander were just so excited that we had to find a way to make it work. A special thanks to Casey from Mind|Castle Studios for flying down to Cali ahead of time with Michael just in case I didn’t make it in time. Not only is their work very tight, but Casey was a very cool guy to work with. Watch out for a rather quirky video and polaroid day after shoot coming shorty.

Here is the SDE from Jess and Ryan’s wedding on Saturday. Thanks again for having us and a special thanks to Ryan for laying down your white Hugo Boss suit in the name of great imagery. For those who are curious, John got up at 5am the day of the wedding to shoot that sunrise.

Adie and Brian had a gorgeous wedding at Montage last fall. I know I just posted a Montage wedding, but wanted to post this one too because I just encoded it for the web! It was the same crew on this one as well with Details Details in charge of the details (LOL) and Aaron Delesie as the photographer. Enjoy! The weather was amazing this day which made this video even more beautiful :)

Allison and Jonathan Trailer

May 26, 2008 | Filed Under HumanStory Wedding Day Films | Leave a Comment

Ali, Jonathan and I sat down in their apartment not too long ago and shared a glass of wine as they told some of their story for the camera. I realized right away they they both had so much depth emotionally and intellectually that I would have a struggle to convey that side of them in a short interview and a one hour wedding film. It really is my hope that through their interview and the interviews of their friends and families, that the viewers can see how incredible they are as individuals and as a couple.

It was a beautiful day. The ceremony and reception was at Lewis Ginter. The event was coordinated by Windy Jennings of Weddings By Windy and photographed by Caron and Carmen from Amanda Anthony Photography. The DJ was Hunter Omohundro of Daddy O" Entertainment. Hunter, Caron, Carmen and Windy are such a great group to work with and are all very good at what they do.

Thanks Ali and Jonathan for a nice glass of wine and a great weekend.

Take care.

Bill

We had a blast shooting and editing this one. Annabelle and Richard was one one of the most gracious and hospitable couples we’ve ever had.

Download the Onsite Video now and read on while you wait for the DL to complete :-).

Richard plays the stocks so he was given Tiffany and Co. Bear and Bull cuff links as a gift from Annabelle.

You really gotta have a confetti blast during the first dance - makes for good photos and video.

Below is a still from the closing shot. A fitting bookend to the roller-coaster ride.

Btw, eighty percent of this clip was shot with 35mm lenses all the way through the ceremony and reception.

Thanks for watching!

Natalie & Morgan Wedding Trailer

This is a Trailer for Natalie & Morgan's wedding! The wedding took place in Tucson, Arizona. Morgan is a professional BMX rider so you might have seen him on the X-games or Mountain Dew Tour Contests. They are also good friends of mine so it was extra fun shooting and mingling at the same time.
