We have a couple things to say with this blog post:
First - Sorry for being so slow with the blog posts lately. We are working super hard on a lot of awesome updates for this season.
Secondly - All those things we are working super hard on will be announced very soon. We are hopingthat ‘very soon’ means next week sometime. We still need to hear back to see exactly what information we can share.
Third - We have a lot more blog posts coming very soon. We are very excited to share photos from Tasha and Paul’s wedding, as well as Yaroslava and Roman’s, both of which are coming soon. We are also hoping to have some more behind the scenes content to share for those who are interested in how we edit or those who want to get to know our team better.
Fourth - Tonight will be the first of a series of clips in which we are going to share an entire wedding film, a first for StillMotion or StillMotionBlog. Chiwei and Stacy are the lovely couple whose wedding will be featured in its entirety. They were married on September 8th in Dearborn Michigan at the Henry Ford Museum. Tonight I will post the clip from the first half of the day. That will be followed by their ceremony, a clip from their reception, and then their highlights. Clip number one will be up in a couple minutes.

What a fortnight! (as Alex would say... that's "two weeks" in British) Back from Orlando and New York and actually home for a while which feels great. Time to catch up on lots of editing!I am so thrilled to release Missy & Gary's Arthouse Edit on our blog. This was a super fun wedding with lots of incredible guests. It was an honor to film it! Jessica Claire assisted by Jenn Bebb was the official photographer and they got incredible stuff.
So without further delay, here it is. Missy & Gary's wedding from their ranch in Kelowna, BC.

NINE ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS!

Whoa! That's all I have to say! I am so excited and proud of our team here at Elysium! Together we earned NINE Artistic Achievement Awards as well as the very top award... BEST IN SHOW... at this year's 4Ever Group conference, our industry's leading organization. What I'm most proud about is the fact that we swept.... yes... SWEPT (meaning first, second, and third place) the "Overall Wedding Production" category. This category judges the whole video as a whole instead of just picking out parts like "Ceremony", etc. And of course all of these productions were our signature and most popular "Arthouse Edits" so we are really proud of that. Two years ago, I used to look up to all the world-class videographers on the EventDV Top 25 list (still do!) and now, in 2008, I find myself among them. I can't tell you in words how happy I am!
The online video communities helped me to take a quantum leap forward with my own work - most notably WedFACT - and I want to thank everyone for their support and votes. Biggest thanks go to my brides whose amazing weddings and lives helped me to make entertaining videos.
2007 was a great, great year and 2008 is going to be just as good, if not better!

Each year EventDV magazine (the trade magazine for videographers worldwide) compiles a list of the top 25 videographers in the world as voted by their readership (other videographers!). I’m so happy to announce that I made the list this year! It’s an absolute honour to be a part of the this list of talented videographers and all of us at Cloud Nine would like to thank EventDV and of course the readers who voted for us!

Every once in a while you cross paths with someone who truly inspires you. I’m attending the annual 4ever Group conference this week in Orlando, Florida and have just come back from the most amazing speech. Jason Magbanua is already well-known for his jaw-dropping videography in the Phillipines (he shot an entire wedding using a cell phone if you can believe it) but in his first speaking engagement in the US, can add capturing the attention of an entire ballroom of videographers to his list of accomplishments. Jason gave a captivating speech tonight that just reminded me that if something is important enough in life and you want it badly enough, it will happen. Sometimes we get so caught up in our day-to-day lives that we need this reminder. A family man and owner/operator of an editing studio that is firing on all cylinders with multiple editors, shooters and other staff, you’d think something would need to fall by the wayside. Jason reminded me that passion and balance in life are achievable. You just have to be open and willing to achieve it and always work hard to achieve the balance. ~Bruce

Here’s the lowdown so far, we got six awards at last night’s Artistic Achievement Awards including THIRD, SECOND and FIRST PLACE in the Same Day Edit (Onsite Video) category. AWESOME!!!!
AND, for the SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR, once again we are part of the 25 most influential videographers IN THE WORLD.
I don’t really type in all caps but can you guess by now how THRILLED and BLOWN AWAY I am? Surreal!

Greetings y'all,
I'm hanging out in sunny Orlando, Florida at the Video '08 conference getting my learn-on and presenting a seminar on hip music choices for event video.
I've been keeping a secret for a while, and I'm proud to finally be allowed to announce that Mason Jar has been voted one of the 25 "hottest and most influential studios in the industry today." Click here to download the article.

We Made the Event DV Top 25 List!

Last night at the 4EVER Group convention and tradeshow (one of wedding videography’s biggest conventions), it was announced that I made it to the top 25 videographers in the world by Event DV Magazine for a second year running. This is arguably the highest honor a wedding videographer can achieve since he or she has to be voted on by their peers in the industry to make the list and competition was tougher than ever this year. So I want to take this opportunity to first thank all those who voted for my inclusion on this list as well as to congratulate the other esteemed videographers who made it as well!
Here’s what I told Event DV when asked what the most important development in wedding videography has been…..
“The exciting new ways that videographers are choosing to tell the wedding story. A new aesthetic has emerged combining the elegance of the cinematic style with the raw feel of the documentary style. I hope this trend of experimentation continues.”

Holy Cow! We are Top 25!

For the last three years, Event DV magazine (which is our industry's top publication) has put out a list of the Top 25 most influential event videographers in the world. It is always announced during the 4evergroup convention (which is why we are in FL right now. Alex and I will both be speaking here later this week). For some reason, we made that list this year! No really, it is a huge honor because the members of the list are voted in by our peers... other videographers in the business. What an incredible honor! The magazine adopts a baseball theme for this and always puts out baseball cards w/each members stats, etc. The only thing that is screwy is that they wouldn't let our whole company be represented on the card, etc. because most companies are just one or two people and our whole company's picture "wouldn't fit". Oh well. I have a VERY VERY VERY sloppy video of the little spiel that they said about us. All this attention feels quite uncomfortable... especially after we won NINE awards last night (including the top honor of Best In Show!!) Crazy!! (but more about that tomorrow!) When we see the cats around, we can’t help to put it in our video.
Helen & Leo are very nice. Also their family! We can feel the love is all around this wedding.
This is the first couple choose the same day edit to replace photo montage in our package. Actually Leo had already prepared some nice and touching powerpoint for Helen.
Lawrence Tsang is the photographer of this wedding. It’s always great to work with his crew. And guys, we’ll work together again in next week!

It was interesting because they thought we were a lot more expensive than their budget allowed and they were pleasantly surprised that that wasn't the case! Although our most popular products do cost a bit more due to the labor and talent involved, we CAN provide options that meet every budget (especially if you are getting married in an off-peak month such as Jan - April!) Eight months ago this happened.
Fast forward to tonight and I’m waiting for boarding on a flight to San Francisco then to Orlando, Florida.
Life Lesson #4: If you want it that much, never take no for an answer.
I’m scheduled to be a guest lecturer at 4EG’s Video ‘08. Here’s the news tidbit about it. The Artistic Achievement Awards Banquet will be held on the first night as well as the awarding of this year’s EventDV25. I’m not crossing my fingers too much (we’ve been so lucky and blessed as it is) but bringing home a couple of trophies would be nirvana.
Our deepest gratitude to everybody who prayed and supported this endeavor. 
The Mermaid & The Mad Hatter

Last year we were commissioned to film an incredible three-day event over the 7-7-07 weekend. Lindsey & Chris are from New York and decided to hold their destination wedding here in Laguna Beach. The three days of events took place at the Montage, the Ritz Carlton, and a gorgeous private residence in the hills of Laguna. Christopher Aldama did an incredible job bringing Lindsey's "fairytale wedding" come to life, and the Details Details team kept all the "details" (and there were A LOT OF THEM) in order and everything running like clock-work! This wedding was unique in so many ways. Lindsey was a member of the National Synchronized Swimming Team, (hence the "Mermaid" reference) and Chris runs a hat company (hence the "Mad Hatter" reference). Wait till you see the shot of their cake (created by "Let Them Eat Cake") that brings this theme to life. It's incredible! They also had little ballerinas perform before their ceremony and even a synchronized swimming performance during the cocktail hour! The party continued at the reception where there was a unique twist on the "photo booth" concept. There were loads of different "fairytale" costumes and props for the guests to put on and take a photo. It was so cool and the guests loved it! Speaking of photos, we able to work with some of our favorite friends in the biz, Withers Wanberg Pictures. They are awesome! Later that night, the 2nd part of the reception room opened up, where DJ AM spun the tunes until late that night. This guy is super talented and was an incredible mixer! I think everyone stayed until the very end and had an incredible time that they will never forget! By the way, this edit is an example of our newest package called "Arthouse Platinum". This would only be one part of it, but you'll notice many subtle differences in the shooting and editing. Let's just say this it he "best of the best". To find out more, please contact us!Yet another thing that made this wedding so unique was that they actually had a custom book designed as their "save the date" card. The very creative Paper Girl studio made this happen. I took this, scanned in all the pages, and animated it using Photoshop and After Effects plus THE ONLY clip I could find of a book opening at the beginning. This is a portion of what first plays when the DVD loads.

This is gonna be THEIR greatest day!
How hard would I try…. Church wedding with same day edit again. This young couple show us their energy and funny style, we can really feel it. We are the fans of ?? & ?? too!
This is the 2nd time to work with Eric Tai within this month. We met them since last year. His crew is always great and very helpful!
