Over the Top, Flamboyant. Elaborate - and intentionally so.

Photographs were taken by none other than Wig Tysmans and the gown created by Jun Escario was nothing short of stunning. Another one to tread the road less travelled, Tina didn’t opt for a white gown.

The wedding turned out really well despite the hangover from Thursday’s dramafest.

Here’s the onsite video, nevermind subtlety when you can hit your audience with a sledgehammer. ;-)

Maria & Jake

November 30, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Leave a Comment

Oh my gosh... I've been so bad! This week has gone by so fast and I just realized right now (10:22pm on Friday night) that I haven't posted anything for a whole week! Which is quite weird because we have TONS to blog about... now if only there were a few more hours in the day! But anyway, I've been meaning to blog about Maria & Jake for a while now. They are a totally cute couple. Barbara Wallace helped create their dream wedding at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel. Mirna & Joe Barnet took the photos! Check out their blog to see the rest of them! Here is their highlight reel:

And I also wanted to post their first dance. I just think it's neat. I'm so sentimental! (and I love the song)

This shot was taken by Grant Schwarz ... Dave going the extra mile at Gunner's Barracks (Mosman) to get the shot by climbing a 7 foot wall with a bit of a drop on the other side. Videography ... not for the feint of heart :)

Kelly & Mike - just a quick sampler

November 29, 2007 | Filed Under StillMotion | Leave a Comment

Kelly has to be one of the biggest Still-Motion enthusiasts. You must have seen all her comments on our blog!

So because of her (and Mike’s) love for photos, I’ve prepared a little sampler to hold them over while they wait for their photos.

You may notice little snippets of Blue Jays paraphernalia here and there… they’re huge baseball fans. In fact, baseball had a lot to do with Mike’s proposal…

So enjoy the photos, and be sure to leave a comment for Kelly. I’m sure she’ll love it!

Mary & Curtis

November 29, 2007 | Filed Under StillMotion | Leave a Comment

John had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Mary and Curtis. While most of our couples have already spoken with or met John, we wanted to take this opportunity to more formally spotlight John and what he has done for StillMotion.ca.

John came on board back in July and has been doing just about everything to help out since then. While his main jobs are shooting and business development, he has been helping out with just about everything he can, and that has made an unbelievable difference for us with how crazy things have been this year.

So a big thank-you goes out to John, for all that he has and continues to help us out with, and for the awesome wedding images you see in Mary and Curtis’ gallery.

Chiwei & Stacy’s Wedding

November 28, 2007 | Filed Under StillMotion | Leave a Comment

One of the most unique locations to shoot: among antique cars and airplanes. These two decided to get married in a museum, and the possibilities were endless.

They had their photo session before their ceremony which meant they had an “official first meeting” right before - and it was very emotional. Stacy waited at the top of the clock tower as Chiwei made it up the long chain of stairs. Tears and smiles were everywhere!

We’ve put together a small collection of photos below for you to see.

of Neil Gaiman, sons and grandpas

November 28, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Leave a Comment

GaimanMania once again hits the Philippines!

Neil Gaiman of American Gods, Stardust and Sandman fame dropped by the Philippines for a speaking engagement at the recently concluded AdCongress and as an honorable guest at the Philippine Graphic/Fiction Awards. (For the uninitiated, Neil is a demigod in fantasy and “horror” fiction not unlike Tarantino’s status in indie film making)

But my real story goes like this…

Some two years ago, when Gaiman first visited the country for a book signing, and just the same time when Pang was pregnant with our second, we fell in line to have a couple of our comics signed (needless to say, I was a big fan).

250px-cover_endless_nights.jpg neil-gaiman.jpg

A lot of people turned up. A LOT. To give you an idea, the queue started at Fully Booked at the upper level of Gateway and spiraling all the way down to the 7-11 along Aurora Avenue. That’s where we started to line-up a good five hours before the signing started.

Yet it was all worth it, we decided that it would be cool to have the comic dedicated to Lukas Ezra (the name we would be giving our second son).

Neil Gaiman, a comic book, a marker and an infanticipating lady on her last trimester - the result - a masterpiece doodle for a yet to be born baby boy. Surreal!

Here’s the “doodle” two years after …

And the three generations below …

Lolo Patricio would have been proud.

Yeah, everybody wonders. And sooner or later everybody gets to find out.”

Cyrus and Rochelle: Holy Trinity Church

November 26, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Leave a Comment

All the billboards were down and people were stacking up on umbrellas. Thankfully, typhoon Lando didn’t hit Manila as expected. It was a gloriously sunny Sunday and only a fleeting shower fell during Rochelle and Cyrus’ ceremony.

It was quite windy though but we used that to full effect when the bride was about to enter the church.

Chalk it up to the power of prayer and the sunshiney smiles of the people in this wedding.

iPhone Photos

November 26, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Leave a Comment

Alex & I are in Denver where we spent Thanksgiving with the family. (This is where I grew up). I will be posting more videos later this week but thought I'd take a moment to post some photos taken on our iPhones... the coolest invention EVER!!! Here is the first one... it's my sister and my new niece (whom I met for the first time this trip). She is seriously the most cutest baby ever!!!!

We stayed with my Aunt & Uncle who live up in the foothills. They have deer and elk around the neighborhood every day! How cool is that? On our way down to my parents house this morning, Alex took this pic. They are kind of hard to see as they blend in with the houses behind. They were just right off the road and didn't seem to be skiddish at all!

OK, so the only drawback of the iPhone is that it doesn't have a video camera, and it doesn't have a flash. :( But here's a photo of us at the Superdome where we went to a Saints game with Terry when we were in New Orleans. We were in the VERY LAST ROW on the 50 yard line. The Budweiser stand was literally right behind us so all we had to do was turn around to get a beer. it was quite handy :)

Kelly + Michael’s SDE, Toronto 11.24.07

November 25, 2007 | Filed Under StillMotion | Leave a Comment

Yesterday we shot our last Same-Day Edit of the year and it couldn’t have been for a couple that was more excited about their wedding.

We had prepared a love story to play before their SDE. It is such an awesome combination to put both together because the love story really got the crowd into it and laughing nearly non-stop before we debuted the much more emotional SDE.

I’ll try to have their love story online within the next couple days as it really offers a glimpse into who they are, and that really allows you to appreciate their day even more.

The 25 Most Influential Videographers

November 22, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Leave a Comment

If you are serious about your art and craft, you look around you for inspiration and guidance, from those that have come before you and are alongside you right now.

I’m sure local coordinators take a cue from the works of Preston Bailey - the world’s eminent event stylist.

The wedding photographers look at Buissink, Escudero and Lara.

In much the same way, in order to grow as a videographer I let other’s work inspire me as I do my own work.

Iris Cinema (New York)
Spencer Lum’s Iris Cinema, though under the radar and inactive in the online forums is a company I admire the most. I know of no other company who has such a solid grasp of the philosophy of shooting a wedding. A philosophy I share. I’m a big fan of their camera and color work.

Elysium Production (SoCal)
Though not so much a problem locally, the notion that wedding videography is second rate to photography is still very much prevalent in Northern America. It is through Julie and Alex Hill’s awesome videos, blogging and networking with the top photographers in their country that they shed that notion slowly but surely. They most recently covered the wedding of renowned photographer Gary Fong.

Chris Watson (Dallas)
Perhaps the single most helpful wedding videographer on the planet. He will go out of his way to explain a point and help somebody out. His style, which continually evolves, is now in a direction I find myself gravitating towards.

Glen Elliot (New Jersey)
Glen influenced me to exercise and pick up that glide cam. It took him to make me slow down and make me realize that a good video isn’t always about cutting a mile a minute.

Joel Peregrine (Milwaukee)
The one true master who will show you that it only takes one person to make a great wedding video. This person has shown me that trends come and go but it is your unique style and voice that will be remembered. The grand daddy of the super secret video forum - videorogues.

DVideography (Philadelphia)
Dave Williams will show you that you can be creative AND profitable at the same time. At the end of it all, we are working to make a profit, and Dave knows profit (as well as marketing, customer service and smooth moves).

Cloud Nine Creative (Vancouver)
When I want sophisticated and classy, I look at Bruce Patterson’s work. Not only do they run the top tier wedding videography company in Canada, but they publish their own magazine as well - Wedluxe.

Bliss Productions (San Francisco)
The most expensive wedding videographer I know. Technically not a “videographer” but a cinematographer though because she uses Super8 and 16mm to shoot her weddings. She opened the eyes of a lot of event videographers, including mine, to the viability and profitability of shooting weddings in analog.

Walter Cheliah (Edmonton, Canada)
You want music video style? Walt will give that to you in large, eye popping doses. But more than the quality of work he does. Cheliah is responsible for banding together the best of the industry’s creative minds, first with videofraternity then with Wedfact - singlehandedly.

And as a small thank you to these people who have, in one way or another, shaped, helped and influenced me in how I do my work, I’m casting my vote for them in this year’s 25 Most Influential Event Videographers in the World.*

Perfect Brides and Weddings

November 21, 2007 | Filed Under D'nM Video Productions | Leave a Comment

I have been asked to write the editorial for the video section in the upcoming issues of Perfect Brides and Weddings Magazine . You can read the editorial below (but I encourage you to buy the magazines to see our sexy ads!) The first magazine will be published in February, the second in June.

The ‘New Black’ in weddings …

It’s now 2007 and the hottest wedding necessity is a Professional Wedding Video.

Video production has come a long way from the 1980’s and 90’s. Gone are the days of tacky, over-the-top effects. Gone are the huge cameras and huge obtrusive lights. Today’s technology allows for cameramen to be discreet and unobtrusive in the way that they capture the most important day of your life.

And isn’t it the most important day of your life? Not only the day that you’ve dreamed of from the time you first discovered what a wedding is all about, the day that you have planned for so long … but the day that you will want to show to your kids in years to come.

Today, more brides are realising that video is a wedding essential – no longer a ‘wedding optional’. Video technology is developing exponentially and becoming intrinsically involved in our lives and lifestyle. As we head into the realms of online video streaming, video on ipods and mobile phones, plasma and LCD televisions and of course high definition - brides are seeing that the future is on video and DVD.

You may read some outdated lists that say you need to book video 3 to 6 months from your wedding date. Today, in Sydney, the best videographers are being booked between 9 and 12 months in advance. Start doing your research early and secure a great videographer to create your wedding memories.

So what should you look for?

Where do you find the best videographers?

- Go hunting online. Many videographers offer samples online.

- Look at professional association websites such as www.avpa.org.au

- Look at sites such as the ABIA awards website. These are awards voted by previous brides based on their experiences.

- Ask family / friends for referrals.

- Seek referrals from your reception venue, photographer, bridal websites / forums.

When you have found someone whose work you like – make an appointment to meet with them to discuss your day and your video.

5 reasons why a professional video is absolutely essential:

1) A professionally produced video will compliment your professional photos. Video is able to capture the sounds, motion and emotion of your day. Both photography and video are indispensable parts of your wedding-day team.

2) Your wedding day goes by very quickly. It is not possible to take in everything. Your videographer will capture the important moments as well as moments you didn’t see, so that you can relive the day again and again.

3) A professional videographer will have all the right equipment and expertise to make a DVD for you that will rival the quality of what you watch on television.

4) Future generations will thank you for it.

5) You won’t regret it. Take a look at some of the Internet forums – you will find countless stories of brides who regret that they didn’t have a wedding video. There are no stories of brides who regret having a video!

For more resources on wedding video – visit www.dnmvideo.com.au

So if you have your wedding date secured, next on the list is your videographer. You can start the search for your professional videographer online right now!

Anna and David were married at the Nurses Memorial Chapel in Little Bay. This is one of my favourite videos because Anna and David were very expressive and you will see that the day was filled with emotion.

The reception was held at Victoria House at Bexley.

Photography was by the very talented Michael from Studio Zanetti

Alice & Sam

November 21, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | 1 Comment

OK so this wedding was probably one of the most fun events we've filmed this year! Alice and Sam are hilarious and know how to have a good time (not to mention throw a great party!). Their big day was all about sharing their joy for life with their family and friends. It all went down at the St. Regis Monarch Beach with Details Details in charge of... the details (sorry had to do it). Jessica Claire mastered the pics... check out more photos on her blog. All in all it was an event we will never forget! Here are their highlights (to one of my very favorite songs):

And you have to stay and watch this little segment... I don't think I've ever seen better entertainment at a wedding! (sorry for the poor quality encode... I will re-encode it when I come back into the studio after Thanksgiving!)
