For those of you who've been an avid reader of our blog for awhile, you'll remember that I went to the Philippines in February as the "official" documentarian of "Operation Taghoy". Every year, Uplift Internationale sends a team of surgeons, nurses, and support staff to rural towns in the Philippines, where they perform surgeries correcting cleft palates and lips of children who can't afford the surgery. This is a FANTASTIC organization. My aunt and uncle have been involved in it for a years and I've always wanted to go. I FINALLY had a chance to finish the video containing a lot of the footage and photos I shot. Please take a few minutes to check it out. If you are looking for an organization to donate too, you should look into this one. Hardly ANY of the money goes to admin. stuff... since it's a small group almost all of the donation goes to help these kids. It's so cool and it was such a privilege to participate! We finally bought a still camera!

Yes it's true... Alex & I finally bought a little point & shoot digital camera so we don't have to keep relying on others (& our iphones) for pics! Here is a little montage of photos of the last 2 weeks. (And don't worry... more video coming this week! In fact... I'm just about to post one.)
the big move…

For those of you keeping track, this will be the 2nd time we've moved our home in less than 9 months! (See post below). But the good news is that the error on our credit report has been fixed (yay!) and we found a great home to rent. The bad part of this is that we actually have to pack & move... I HATE MOVING!!! So next week is the big week. Alex and I will probably be out of the office most of the week because of this. Just wanted to let ya'll know!!Fun Stuff!

were married in Birmingham and had the reception at Oakland Hills Country Club. We finally had a chance to work with Carolyn R. Hefner of The China Closet. We have heard so much good things about Carolyn from other planners. The dinning room was beautifully decorated by David McKnight's crew from Emerald City Designs. We also worked with Ray Anthony who we haven't seen in a while so it was nice working together again.
New Equipment

Being in the video business there are always new pieces of equipment (toys) coming onto the market. Most of them are great fun but on the downside they are not cheap.Hence it was with great delight that I made my most recent purchase. A great camera that gives fantastic pictures and all for less than $100. Yep, that's right $100. Sure beats the $1000's that I spent on my other cameras.
Here is a picture of it:
That's right, it's a Super 8mm film camera. It is something I have been thinking about for awhile and have been waiting for the right time to get into it. The plan is to shoot some weddings, obviously not the whole wedding on 8mm, with this camera and create a stunning highlights piece.
The look and colour of film is amazing. It certainly is totally different to video and adds a little extra dimension that is hard to describe.
Now I just have to go out and get some footage. Stay tuned for updates.

My poor blog is probably starting to feel abit neglected. The last month or so has been hectic with shooting, editing and wedding expos.I had a brochure made up to hand out to couples at the last expo we attended. I'm pretty happy with how it looks. Thanks to Steve and Mel for allowing me to use their picture.
I think it looks great but would love to hear your feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Nine Inch Nails

“And now I’m going to say something corny, thanks to you for being such an appreciative audience. Now here’s another song about killing yourself.” - Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails/HongKong
Angst is a word you pick up in Philo 101 in college. A catchall term you use for all the frustration you feel when you can’t score a date, when you’re broke and when you’re flunking your subjects. Now like all proper “angst-ridden” teenagers, you have to have a soundtrack to your pitiful, despicable existence. Back in my day you could listen to Linger by the Cranberries, Minsan by the Eraserheads, Silent all these Years by Tori Amos. I listened to all of them. And I also listened to Nine Inch Nails.
Nothing beat NIN when it comes to pained, angry songs. Perfect acoompaniment to those rainy nights of doom and gloom.
College was a silly time. You think you had big-ass problems. But wait ’til you graduate sonny-boy, the real misery is yet to begin.
What’s your soundtrack when you wallow in misery?

Wow... I don't think I've ever been to so many places in so little time... except for maybe when I toured Europe via train in college! Earlier this month we were in Canada shooting Missy & Gary's wedding, then off to Mexico for vacation, and this week we are in Oahu, Hawaii shooting something super cool for Victor Sizemore. More details to come, but here's a pic he took of us. Not a bad background to be shooting in, and I can safely say that I could handle living here. :).jpg)
Jaclyn & Dan’s Same Day Edit

What a whirlwind weekend! Alex & I flew back from vacation on Friday (which was awesome by the way - some pics and video to come) in time to shoot Jacklyn & Dan's incredible wedding at Montage in Laguna Beach. Jeannie & her Details Details associates pulled out all the stops on this one... the event was just gorgeous and everything ran without a hitch as always. Sunny from White Lilac provided the floral decor with rich deep reds. The thing that I will always remember about this wedding, is that during the cocktail hour, Aaron Delesie was shooting some photos w/the couple and all of a sudden some fog rolled in. It made for a very beautiful photo session. I can't wait to see his pics!Bridal Fashion

I have been wanting to produce weddings with film for a long time but I have never had the courage. Well I finally stepped up and did it! I just love how film looks. It's just so romantic, so sexy, so nostalgic, so warm, so beautiful. Don't get me wrong, digital video is great especially with HD. But film has a unique feel that can not be duplicated with any special effects...believe me, I've tried.I am making preparations to launch Don Pham Films next year with film in concert with HD as part of my productions. So here is a film clip for you to enjoy.

Those of you who know me knows I'm a workaholic. I get around 5 hours of sleep per night with all the things I have to do. But don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I have been blessed with this crazy schedule and I welcome it. However I do stop working from time to time to spend quality time with my kids. After all, they are the reasons for me to work so hard.Three months ago I planned to take my boys to a Tigers game without telling them. I wanted it to be a surprise. However, good tickets were so hard to come by cause the Tigers were so hot. In addition, I wanted to go to a day game cause I wanted to pull the boys out of school to go to the game. But the plan went south due to no tickets available other than nose bleed seats. How cool will that be to have me show up at the school and tell my boys "Get your stuff son, we're going to the Tigers game RIGHT NOW" in front of their class mates. My wife thought it was a BAD idea to pull the kids out of school but hey...I wanted to be a cool dad :) .
My prayer was answered when the Tigers added a makeup day game on September 11th. I quicky bought the tickets and boy were they great seats...11th row behind home plate! Yeah Baby!!
I picked up the boys in the middle of class today and they were very surprised. We went to the ballpark and had a great time. One of the rules of the Pham family is, when we go to a pro sport game, we must eat all the junk food we can handle. And boy did we...no dinner for me tonight.
Oh and the score was 13 to 6...Tigers got killed!!!

Of Wedding Cancellations
September 11, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Leave a Comment
Over my seven-year career as a wedding videogrpaher, I’ve had my share of cancelled weddings.
The knee-jerk reaction of course is - Damn! What a wasted oppurtunity to make moolah!
The jerk reaction being - Hmm! I wonder what the inside scoop is?
Upon closer analysis you find that the reasons behind wedding cancellations are grave and run deep. I mean, who cancels weddings? It’s the stuff of soaps and hysterics of campy b-list actresses. Not.
You realize that there are pretty darn good reasons why the wedding must not push through. Incompatibility and infidelity not the least of them.
And if you look way way past the wasted effort and energy in the planning, the money lost on non-refundable deposits and the embarassment wrought upon the parties involved, you heave a sigh of relief because at least, at least!, man and woman called it quits before they got around to being called man and wife. Perhaps a brief period of “kahihiyan” (great embarassment) in exchange for a lifetime of wedded misery. A good trade I suppose.
I have this question on my long running FAQ page…
Is the person I’m going to marry truly the person for me?
I’m really not the person to ask, but if you insist… You know he/she is the right one if you can freely fart a loud squishy one in front of him/her without getting embarrassed.
The moral? There is none. Just think hard and deep before taking the plunge.
