Christina & Brian

July 31, 2007 | Filed Under Take 1 Productions | Leave a Comment

What a cool couple! They were so laid back and fun. The ceremony was at the beautiful Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hamtramck and the reception was at the Ukrainian Cultural Center. We headed to Belle Isle for a photo session with Deborah Lambrecht after the ceremony and ran into some skate boarders. A light bulb went on inside my head as soon as I saw them. I asked the skaters if they could do some freestyle around Christina and they agreed. Check out the footage!

FINALLY! OUR NEW DEMO!

July 30, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Leave a Comment

OMG… I’ve been meaning to edit a new Demo for like two years now!!! It gets harder and harder as time goes by because we have more and more fantastic footage to look through. But two weeks ago I decided to lock myself in my office and not come out until I finished it. (Well, not really, but you get the idea!) So here it is… can’t wait to read your feedback!

There’s Something About Mary!

July 28, 2007 | Filed Under Velvetine Studios | Leave a Comment

I knew from the very moment that I met Mary Van De Walle in Mareid's Salon that this was going to be an amazing wedding... and amazing it was!!!

Mary and Colin are from Chicago and their family and friends all came to Clifden, Galway to celebrate their wedding. It is a weekend that will live long in my memory because these were a special bunch of people... I'm not exaggerating when I say that they treated my camera man Shane and I like family.

Michelle the coordinator from Waterlily Weddings made sure that everything ran as smoothly as possible, Michael Dillon worked his magic with the photography, Father John Gorman had the place in stitches one minute and in floods of tears the next, Mark at Rossleague Manor made sure that everyone partied into the early hours, and the band Weightless Astronauts absolutely rocked!!

Now it's just up to me to do justice to everyone with a WeddingStory... no pressure then ;)

Dillon Photography

July 28, 2007 | Filed Under Velvetine Studios | Leave a Comment

I have had the absolute pleasure of working with Michael Dillon from Dillon Photography and I highly recommend him.

Not only is Michael a friendly person but he is a thorough professional and his work speaks for itself; in my opinion, some of the best wedding photography I've seen on this island! I mentioned to my camera man, Shane, that Michael had a good eye for composition and I was so looking forward to checking out his website to view his photos... it's impressive to say the least.

A Wedding in Lomo

July 27, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Leave a Comment

Twenty-two days and fourteen rolls after, I’m still high on Lomo.

40230005.JPG

As with all passions, I came into it head-on, devouring everything I could read about it, joining it’s premiere local community - lomomanila, savoring the pictures graciously shared online and learning as much as possible from the pioneers (thanks Jill).

The attraction for Lomo stemmed perhaps from how lomographs looked - super saturated, vignetted, off-kilter colors and blurs. The exact characteristics of the videos that we make. The coincidence was uncanny yet not surprising.

40200031.JPG

But reading more about lomography, you learn that it’s not all “style”. It’s not even strictly the cameras.

You realize it’s more of a lifestyle, an attitude. To shoot without boundaries, without being constrained with the traditional rules of photography (though no question, lomography IS photography), to be spontaneous in shooting, to not think at all.

40200007.JPG

BS? Maybe. Fun. No doubt.

Here’s a wedding entirely shot with a Lomo Kompakt Automat+. Chris and Cho.

The point being there is no point. Why? Because I wanted to and I could.

Mimi & Mark’s Highlights from their Cabo Wedding

July 26, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Leave a Comment

Ok, so I have a ton of stuff to post so stay tuned to the blog! I’m obviously not sticking to my schedule above, but when the new blog arrives (soon!!!) things will change a bit anyway. What I want to share with you today is the highlights portion of Mimi & Mark’s super beautiful and super fun wedding in Cabo. They are such a cool couple and let me tell you… they know how to throw a fabulous destination wedding!! Of course it was always a pleasure working with the ultra talented Jessica Claire. Check out her amazing pics from this wedding here. The coordinators from Fiesta Los Cabos did a fabulous job planning everything and they were super easy to work with. OK.. so what I really loved about this event was how everyone celebrated until the wee hours in the morning. I mean everyone… I don’t think ANYONE left! The couple flew in one of the most amazing DJ’s I’ve ever worked with. His name is DJ David Chang. So that’s it! Enjoy the highlights!

Nicole & Jake’s Arthouse Edit

July 25, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Leave a Comment

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything besides Promos and Same Day Edits, so I thought I’d post about an arthouse edit from ‘06! Nicole & Jake’s wedding took place at one of our very favorite locations to shoot: seven-degrees in Laguna Beach. If you are a bride reading this blog and are still looking for a location, you HAVE TO check out their website!!! It’s one of those venues (and there are not very many of them) where you can create a completely unique look. The staff there are amazing - you just tell them your vision and they go for it! It helps to have amazing lighting and multi-media capabilities built in. :) Anyway… we were excited to work with the ultra-talented Victor Sizemore yet again. If you click on his name, search the archives in November to find more pics from this wedding. Congratulations Nicole & Jake!

Great feedback!

July 25, 2007 | Filed Under D'nM Video Productions | Leave a Comment

It's always nice to receive feedback about our videos. The comments below are from the trombone player in the band at one of our recent weddings. If you're looking for a fantastic live act for your wedding - I can highly recommend the John Field Band!

"Hi Dave,

Roy here, the trombone player in the John Field Band. I just saw all the web clips from Lana and Andrew's wedding at Luna Park on May 6th.

Absolutely fantastic stuff! I've never seen a better wedding video in my life and I've been playing weddings now for about 30 years.

I want to send it to my friends and family in the US. You have finally captured what I have been trying to explain to them all these years as to what the JFB is all about. To add to that, you got the trombone in so many shots I finally feel that it was worth the extra money to buy a white coloured slide (ha).

I also had a look at your price list and wow, you certainly live up to your claim of being affordable because that must have taken voluminous hours to put those videos together. I also suspect somebody over there is a musician because those were great music beds to select and brilliant audio edits.

Best regards,
Roy"

Some Tips…ideas for a better wedding video.

July 24, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Leave a Comment

1. Write your own vows. No please don’t see this as another “task” to add to your never ending list of things to do. I always say - If not on your wedding day, when?

2. Secure all necessary permits where the photographers and videographers will shoot. Be it the choir loft of Manila Cathedral or San Agustin, or the formals shoot around Intramuros.

3. Clear out everybody behind the Bride when she enters the church, no coordinators, couturiers, security guards, chaffeurs, kids etc.

4. Walk slowly. Very slowly down the aisle.

5. Ask the music ensemble at the church NOT to play anything during the vows and rings exchange. Not only will this make the rites more solemn but it will also lend us greater flexibility in editing the footage (ie. no violin music annoyingly mixing with your choice of bg music later on). I honestly believe that this is an offshoot of Pinoy’s love for melodramas, where every dramatic moment is punctuated with on cue dramatic instrumenatal (ie. Lovingly Yours, Mara Clara).

Make them cry because of the moment, not becasue Love Affair is playing in the background.

6. Allow us to light us the reception venue. A compromise can always be arrived to preserve the ambience and to adequately see whoever’s on stage.

7. Have a first/last dance. It looks great on pictures and video. Don’t be too conscious if you’re not much of a dancer, just concentrate n your spouse and nothing else.

Trash The Dress

July 17, 2007 | Filed Under Take 1 Productions | Leave a Comment

So what are you going to do with the wedding dress after the wedding day is over? How about Trashing It!!! Trash the Dress has been a growing trend. So much so that it has been on The New York Times, Good Morning America, ABC News, Entertainment Tonight. So what is it you say? Well…it is a photo and/or filming session of the Bride wearing her wedding dress posing and playing in unique environments. If you are working with a good professional, the outcome will be amazing.

Trash the dress is not for everyone. You either Love it or Hate it. There is a website that photographers and videographers around the world submit their work to get posted. I was fortunate to get my Trash The Dress video posted yesterday. Go to the website and see some amazing work by really talented artists. But first a word of WARNING. If you get queazy seeing wedding dresses costing thousands of dollars get dirty, wet, muddy…don’t go there. If you Love what you see and want to Trash your dress…we can help you! :-)
