Jamie & Andrew’s Same Day Edit

June 26, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Comments Off

The weather was PERFECT for Jamie & Andrew’s gorgeous wedding at Montage in Laguna Beach on Sunday! It was warm, but not too warm, and the marine layer lifted in time for the ceremony and their photo session. All in all, it was a great event to film. Jeannie Savage scored another A+ as coordinator extraordinaire and Aaron Delesie was there too, to capture some amazing shots. I can’t wait to see them! The floral design by Square Root was beautiful and made the ballroom smell AMAZING!

Jen and John

June 26, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Comments Off

Here is perhaps the only shot of the bride in a pensive mood. I savored the moment as this only lasted for a second.

The rest was just rip roaring laughter from Jen and John.

Watch the Onsite Video.

PS. Thanks for the puto and kutsinta. Thanks for the cheeseburger. Thanks for the meetings where all we did was laugh out loud. It was most enjoyable doing your wedding. I’ll send the AVP bill by the way LOL.

Thanks also to Daniel Boswell of DvArtistry who inspired me to do the photo montage transition.

Season Premiere - I Do, Let’s Eat!

June 25, 2007 | Filed Under Wedluxe Magazine | Leave a Comment

The third season of I Do … Let’s Eat! returns to Food Network on Tuesday, June 26 at 11 PM ET/ 8PM PT

This Gemini-nominated, smash hit documentary series showcases the weddings and banquets of couples from different cultures, but it’s about more than just the food – it’s about the emotion, anxiety and excitement of the big day. Season three presents a behind the scenes look at thirteen ceremonies and their extravagant banquets. Each episode features one couple’s wedding feast, the chef that prepares it, and the demands and pressures which they all face leading up to and including the main event.

A special inside scoop for WedLuxe readers: The first episode that airs Tuesday at 11ET/PT on the Food Network features a couple with two very different backgrounds – Natalia the bride is the daughter of the former vice-President of Indonesia and grew up like a princess, her groom was raised by his grandmother in Des Moines, Iowa.

It’s a great episode to watch and the season launch.

Arman & Sidney’s Same Day Edit

June 25, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Comments Off

All I can say about Arman & Sidney’s event is “WOW”!! They truly had a fairytale wedding which fit them perfectly since I don’t think I’ve met a more romantic groom than Arman. I mean… he proposed to Sidney dressed up as a knight on a white horse! Everything was incredible at this wedding… from the dark reds and Persian traditions, to the gorgeous flowers and elaborate reception. The ceremony took place on the Grand Lawn at the St. Regis in Monarch Beach and the reception was a huge party until about 2:00 in the morning. Laurie Davies did a fantastic job coordinating the day’s events… and there were A LOT of details to coordinate… including the horse and carriage! Lauren Hillary is always a blast to work with and I’m sure she got some crazy beautiful shots! You might remember their trailer that was edited a while back. It was projected along with a video of their engagment and the Same Day Edit during the reception on two giant screens. Anyway, enjoy!

Invited to Join New Organisation

June 25, 2007 | Filed Under Velvetine Studios | Comments Off

In the USA and Canada most videographers either align themselves with WEVA or 4EG, oraganisations that offer training support to their members in the quest to improve the wedding video industry. In Britain there is the IOV. In Ireland... nothing.

WEVA and 4EG hold annual training and award ceremonies in Las Vegas and Jackonsville and I can tell you that most of the winning videographers are immensely talented and a credit to the industry.

Several of these videographers are in the process of starting their own initiative to promote excellence in the wedding video industry. They will attract the finest videographers in the business, poeple from all over the globe who are pushing boundaries and making exciting wedding videos for today's young couples. This new organisation will not only support this new wave of artists with promotional platforms and forums to encourage growth but they also want to reach out to the brides who are looking for that something special on their wedding day.

And Velvetine Productions has been invited participate and I've got to tell you I am so proud that my most respected peers have seen fit to ask us onboard.

The launch date is to be announced shortly and more details will follow here on the blog.

Something Different

It has been a while since my last entry but I have been so busy. I guess that’s a good thing. I want to share a new feature I will be offering. I don’t have a name for it yet but in the video industry it’s called Bridal Highlights.

I want to thank David Beckstead (American Photo’s Top 10 Wedding Photographers in the World) and Kevin Kramer (Expert Wedding Fashion Photographer) for allowing me to work with them on this project. A special thank you to Jessica for being such a great Bride. When watching the video you would never guess that she is a Doctor specializing in Radiology.

A Touching Story

June 23, 2007 | Filed Under D'nM Video Productions | Leave a Comment

This story was posted on a videography forum by Natalie Neal of Glass Slipper Productions in Philadelphia.

You never know who you will impact or when. Let me tell you a true story. Four years ago I sent an unsolicited email to a potential bride. I know I was wrong and I don't do that sort of thing now - but that was then. The bride calls me to ask me to remove her from my email list - I was super friendly and apologetic - we actually talked for over an hour we clicked so well. She ended up coming in and booked us to cover her wedding. She loved all we did for her that day. We grew closer, her and her husband and me and mine became close - dinner, dancing, movies, bowling - friend stuff.

Two years later we asked them to be a part of our bridal party when Rob and I renewed our wedding vows and we had a big ole wedding.

Last year they had their first child a baby girl.

Today I get a call from my friends husband telling me that his wife is dying. She has about a week to ten days he says. They didn't tell anybody (friends) because she didn't want her friends to feel sorry for her and to watch her wither away - it all started about 3 months ago. Today I am told she asked for us.

Her husband in tears says "we value your friendship so much. I wouldn't trade it for the world. But it's what you did for us on our wedding day being our videographers that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Because of you, my daughter will see and know her mother. Because of the video I thought I could not afford, Olivia will hear her mothers voice. Her memories will be forged with your video".

My God, I lost it. Sometimes we get caught up in the business of being in business. Climbing ladders that don't matter, or trying to be at the top. Today I realized that what we do with video cannot be be measured with a price tag or a plaque on the wall. It's value is in the legacy's we protect everyday - and we don't even realize it.

My heart is breaking. But I know that what I did four years ago for a woman who didn't even want me emailing her, is the priceless gift she gave to her child.

Old School

June 21, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Comments Off

I’ve purchased so many lenses for my Letus setup that I couldn’t resist the urge to buy a film camera body for it.

If the camera you’re using is older than you are - now that’s old school. The Canon EF

Congratulations Catherine & Colm

June 21, 2007 | Filed Under Velvetine Studios | Comments Off

It was such a pleasure to be a part of Catherine & Colm's wedding day; a lovely couple with great families and friends but my strongest memories of this day will always be the toasts. Colm gave a great speech and the "dirt on my jacket" piece was priceless but the for me, the father of the bride stole the show. He had me in tears... with laughter!!! Here's a glimpse at some other moments from their day.

Clara & Matt’s Same Day Edit

June 20, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Comments Off

This is a little delayed getting up on the blog because I just got back from Denver. For those of you who don’t know, I grew up there. My younger sister is having a baby so I went back for the shower and to visit the family.

Anyway, Clara & Matt had a fantastic wedding this past Saturday! The Catholic ceremony took place at St. Edwards in Dana Point, and the reception was held at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel. Fiori Fresco put together a dreamy atmosphere in the reception, complete with cherry blossoms for the center pieces and tons of candles and flowers! The lighting was amazing and so was the cake! Everything about the reception was exquisite. The event went off flawlessly since Michelle from Details Details was there to coordinate. It also helps to have a great team which was topped off with Lars and his son from Withers Wanberg Pictures. Clara & Matt had a DJ and a Band at the reception and let me tell you… they were put to great use! The guests never seemed to leave the dance floor! Everyone had an amazing time.

I am the Western Division Iron Videographer Champ!

June 15, 2007 | Filed Under Elysium Productions | Comments Off

We flew back from New York early Wednesday morning (I will post video of the trip soon) and after only a few hours of sleep and a long flight, I competed in the Western regional for the “Iron Videographer” competition held by the 4Ever Group. It was a huge honor to be chosen to participate. The competitors were chosen through open nominations from videographers around the country. The two with the most votes in each region competed w/eachother. I had go against Andrew Hsu of Morning Star Videography in San Franscisco. He is a great guy and an awesome vidoegrapher so needless to say, I was pretty nervous! The object of the competition was to edit a highlights segment within four hours. We both had the same footage, but could use whatever music and stuff we wanted except… we had to use a “secret ingredient” given to us right at the beginning of the 4 hours. In this case, it was a piece of really cheesy buy-out music. Not only that, but it was a piece that you would never use for a wedding. Maybe for a corporate video, but not for a wedding! Anyway, I have posted some pics as well as my entry. In the end, the judges (all wedding pros, not videographers) voted for mine and I was really humbled because Andrew’s was awesome! Now it’s on to the next round probably in the fall where I’ll be facing the East Coast’s winner!

Martina and Elmer: Better Together

June 12, 2007 | Filed Under Jason Magbanua | Wedding Videographer | Comments Off

From Cebu to Tagaytay the next day, I thought I was going to be spent but adrenaline proved me wrong. Okay so, what does the Onsite Video Editor need the least while editing? - why, catchy, witty text to go along with the video of course!

But I’m a sucker for pain and the opportunity presented itself so here goes - the witty onsite video of Elmer and Martina.

marts3.jpg

I fell in love with Splendido (Tagaytay), it was our first time to shoot there. The place was so cozy and tastefully styled.

marts4.jpg

And in the never-ending quest to hunt for more lenses for my 35mm setup, I recently picked up a 1:1 macro.
